Closing date: 25/06/2021

Come and work with the friendly and dedicated team at Nottinghamshire Live. We've got an unrivalled reputation of being at the centre of the biggest stories here for the last 150 years.

Recently we launched Reach Boost, a fully funded training scheme that is paying for aspiring journalists to train while in full-time employment in newsrooms across London and the South East region. The scheme was designed to improve representation in our newsroom and involves partnering with NCTJ-accredited course providers to take on and support students to achieve formal journalism training.

Following on from the success of Reach Boost we are now bringing this unique opportunity to Nottingham! We will be offering a passionate and creative aspiring journalist a full time position working at NottinghamshireLive where they will also complete an apprenticeship NCTJ accredited journalism course.

Is this opportunity right for you? Has becoming a journalist always been a dream of yours but you haven't been able to access formal journalism training? Perhaps writing has always been a hobby of yours? We are passionate about serving our diverse communities better and would love to hear from you. Whether you are finishing up your college course or if you are working in another industry but deep down have always dreamed of becoming a journalist, then please get in touch. We believe that together we can improve how we cover our areas and offer opportunities to people who may not have considered this as a career before.

This role will be a mix of home and office working. Due to the nature of the position this candidate will need to live in the local area.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will be working as part of a team to cover live news
  • You will build strong contacts for story-gathering in our existing and underserved communities
  • You will learn feature writing and interviewing skills

The Ideal Candidate
  • We're looking for someone who is extremely passionate about becoming a journalist
  • You will have strong local knowledge of Nottingham

  • We want you to be passionate about the stories you believe are important from our many diverse communities as we seek to grow new audiences
  • You will have at least 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English.
  • Unfortunately due to the apprenticeship course, we are unable to accept candidates who have completed Journalism University Degrees.
