Job description:

Here at Serco we are looking for an experienced Chef to join us at HMP Dovegate, Uttoxeter to work within the residential function. As part of your role, you will carry out catering and related services for prisoners and staff as directed by the Catering & Retail Manager.

As Chef you will assist the Catering Manager and the Chef Supervisor in the delivery of catering services to the whole establishment whilst complying with all relevant Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations, legislation and guidelines. Key duties will include providing varied and healthy menus for residents to include special diets, special events and religious events, whilst also keeping abreast of trends and developments in the catering industry such as menus and consumer tastes.

What you will need to do the role:

In order to carry out this role successfully, you must have strong communication skills as well as the ability to think quickly and react to different situations. You will have good recent, hands on working experience as a Chef in a large catering operation (1000+) or a similar custodial environment with some level of supervisory experience and be physically capable of working a 10-hour shift. You will also have:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent GCSE.
  • City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or equivalent NVQ or similar in Food Preparation and Production
  • Food Safety Level 3
  • Awareness of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
  • Awareness of Allergen Control within Catering
