Please find full details of how to apply via our Website in the advert below. The deadline for application submissions is 23:59 on Wednesday 25th November 2020.

We have an opportunity for a new colleague to join our South Gloucestershire team… We are seeking a trainee in our housing and floating support service to support young people in sustaining their accommodation; the role includes the opportunity to achieve qualifications in youth work.

We are a leading youth homelessness charity based in the South West, working with over 2,500 young people. We have strong local partnerships and adhere to the best practice in the sector.  We build trusting relationships between our young people and our colleagues and this is at the core of our work.

What we are looking for:

  • You have experience of living in care – foster care, children’s homes, or kinship care
  • You are enthusiastic, able to work on own initiative but also alongside your team, ensuring a safe and thriving environment for young people.
  • You truly understand the complex needs of homeless young people, young people leaving care, and the barriers they face.
  • You have a good grasp of what it means to work in a confidential manner, and you do this sensitively and discretely.
  • You are committed to learning new skills, including attending college to achieve an award in youth work as part of the traineeship.

What you will be doing:

  • You will help support young people to maintain/move toward independence in secure, permanent accommodation and/or establish themselves in the community.
  • You will take part in relevant training and development identified to enable you to gain the skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to succeed in this role.
  • You will help young people take advantage of opportunities in the community including education, training, and employment.
  • You will help deliver a housing management service, including taking part in health and safety inspections, reporting maintenance and letting properties to new residents.

You will be in the South Gloucestershire Team and your line manager will be our South Gloucestershire manager; you will also be supported by the Senior Support Worker in the team.

What we are offering:

  • An opportunity to gain skills, experience, and a qualification in working with young people
  • Our team members are very supportive of each other and through monthly Reflective Practice session we are always learning from our own and each other’s experiences.
  • A relaxed dress code every day!
  • A friendly and welcoming team

Covering Letter / Supporting Statement Guidance

Please note that the online application form cannot be saved until it is fully complete.  We recommend that you prepare your Covering Letter before you start the online application.

Your Covering Letter is essentially your Supporting Statement and will form the most important basis on which your skills, experience and behavioural competencies will be tested against the job criteria.  Without it, your application cannot progress to the shortlisting stage.

You should refer to the Person Specification document within the Job Pack and cover only the elements that are tested at this stage of the recruitment process.  Elements that only have the word ‘interview’ next to them will be tested at the next stage of the process and do not need to be covered in your letter.

Please try to keep the word limit to 250 words per criterion

ALTHOUGH THE APPLICATION FORM GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO UPLOAD A CV, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A CV AS THIS IS NOT NECESSARY AND WILL NOT BE USED IN THIS PROCESS.
