SQL DBA & Middleware Infrastructure Specialist

SQL DBA & Middleware Infrastructure Specialist required to work in Borehamwood.

Job purpose:

• Reporting into the Infrastructure Team Leader, you will be part of IT Run department.
• Responsible for database/application server resources and configuration items, ensuring maximum system availability (MS SQL Server/ Progress Open Edge / Oracle / PostgresSQL / MySQL).
• To manage the installation, configuration and management of all databases on both MS Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• To work alongside the Linux and Windows Infrastructure teams and assist with day-to-day duties.
• To provide 3rd-line support for MS SQL Server, Progress Open Edge and Oracle systems including out of hours maintenance windows (up to 4 times a month between 10 pm and 2 am).
• To manage and maintain defined middleware applications and systems.

Skills required:

• 5yrs + solid and proven MS SQL Server database installation and administration across MS SQL Server 2
• Experience with MS SQL Server replication; backups and DRS
• Experience of SSRS and SSIS
• Experience working with database systems on both MS Windows Server and Red Hat Linux Servers. Willingness to learn new database technologies running under Linux operating systems.
• MS SQL Clustering on VMware Environment
• Experience with designing and implementing MS SQL Server architecture
• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
• Ability to work under pressure and make appropriate decisions
• Confidence to take ownership and responsibility of all aspects of database systems
• Ability to make decisions and take actions under pressure situations
• Ability to work to a shift rota
• Ability to work late nights/early mornings (10pm - 2am) up to 4 times a month
• Ability to provide 24/7 on-call cover on a rota basis (when required)
