NURSERY MANAGER required for our outstanding client based in the Berkhamsted area of Hertfordshire.

Our client a very reputable day nursery looking for a Nursery Manager who would be able to work on a full-time basis Monday to Friday. Children enjoy all the attention that they would normally receive at home but with the added benefits of trained staff, a full-time chef and facilities specifically intended to stimulate each area of development. They pride themselves in using their knowledge and understanding of young children's needs and interests to provide stimulating experiences and support for their learning and development. Their extensive woodland and secluded garden provides exciting outdoor learning opportunities whatever the weather.

Main responsibilities:-

  • Ensure all practice and provision meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Ensure all aspects of the EYFS and regulatory requirements are delivered to the highest standard
  • Promote high standards of quality in respect of the environment, resources and experiences offered to children
  • Ensure that the curriculum offers rich and stimulating experiences appropriate to the age and stage of development for all children
  • Support the development of good practice with regards to inclusion
  • Create and maintain a culture of self-evaluation and reflective practice throughout the nursery
  • Ensure each child is developing in line with the EYFS and that staff are maintaining accurate assessment records
  • Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff are aware of and follow Safeguarding Procedures
  • Promote and facilitate positive partnerships with parents
  • Facilitate high quality induction for new children and their families
  • Lead and develop a well-qualified and experienced team
  • Lead the supervision and professional development of all staff to ensure delivery of high-quality childcare, education and child development
  • Develop and lead CPD and evaluate training undertaken by staff
  • Recruit and induct staff
  • Develop open and positive working relationships with staff
  • Manage any performance management issues, seeking advice where relevant
  • Ensure the appearance of staff is in line with the Nursery Uniform Policy and the high standards
  • Produce staff rotas that adhere to EYFS ratios. Health and Safety
  • Manage the day-to-day operation in order to ensure the health and safety of the children, their parents, the Day Nursery team and any visitors to the nursery
  • Maintain an excellent working environment with all maintenance issues dealt with quickly and safely
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Be fully aware of all safeguarding procedures, including emergency and security procedures
  • Be responsible for ensuring the nursery remains compliant in respect of suitably trained staff including relevant first aid qualifications
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all staff complete Health and Safety training provided by the School
  • Ensure all policies and documentation are up to date, compliant and of a high standard as per OFSTED/ISI requirements
  • Support the Head to facilitate inspections by regulatory bodies and implement any recommendations
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all complaints and concerns are actively resolved in a timely manner and follow the School's policy
  • Provide outstanding communication to parents
  • Proactively represent Day Nursery for all open events including tours
  • Promote and advance the interests of Day Nursery
  • Liaise with the Head and the marketing department to ensure all information related to the Day Nursery is current and up to date
  • Be a role model of excellence within the Day Nursery promoting exemplary practice
  • Responsible for all administrative duties associated with the nursery
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of setting
  • Ensure policies of diversity and equal opportunities are adhered to
  • Liaise with staff from across the School, especially EYFS and Pre-Prep to ensure parity of practice and for cohesion
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by management.

Personal Attributes

  • Good management and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent understanding of EYFS, child development and learning
  • Qualified to at least Level 6 with maths and Literacy key skills
  • Experience of working as a senior leader within a childcare environment
  • Have a full understanding of OFSTED standards and criteria and the ability to produce documentation required by the Independent Schools Inspectorate
  • Ability to work under pressure and to targets and deadlines
