Assistant Accountant

The Company:

They are an innovative and successful privately owned SME that designs and manufactures hi-tech capital equipment for worldwide export with a head office in the UK and two overseas offices.

A vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Accountant with direct responsibility for managing all

aspects of Accounts Payable for this successful privately owned SME with 2 small overseas

offices that designs and manufactures hi-tech equipment for worldwide export. This is a key

role within the Finance function, supporting the Finance Manager with the production of the

monthly finance pack and ensuring timely execution of day-to-day tasks and effective

financial management and control across the business.

This role will provide the job holder with the opportunity to build on existing finance skills to

progress their career of becoming a Management Accountant.

Principal Accountabilities:

?? Complete responsibility for multi entity Accounts Payable Function - including invoice registration, supplier statement reconciliations and BACS run

?? Manage UK payroll and outsourced payroll of 2 foreign entities

?? Support Finance Manager to ensure:

o Maintenance and control of Finance processes and continuous improvement in Finance operations

o On time delivery of relevant statutory and internal reports

o Streamlining of processes and improving service delivery of Finance Team

o Timely execution of month end responsibilities and production of KPI's

o Identification of areas for the Finance team to add value

o The smooth running of the department

?? Month-end responsibilities including general accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations

?? Support Finance Manager to deliver on time against Budget, Forecast and Year-end process

?? Oversee corporation tax data collection

?? To undertake reporting to HMRC, ONS and other external organisations as required

?? Manage R&D Grant Claim evidence

?? Manage insurance administration

?? Undertake ADHOC profitability and reporting

?? Proactively manage workload peaks and troughs, meet deadlines against forecast, targets and work volumes to maintain efficiency and productivity

Finance Leadership

?? Build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels

?? Ensure complaints or service failures are dealt with swiftly

?? As a Finance Professional, continuously undertakes professional and personal development and adds value to the business

?? Cross functional trained to act as cover for the Finance Manager

Compliance

?? Ensures own work is compliant with relevant internal and external regulations and standards to all legal requirements

?? Ensures compliance of financial reporting with internal standards and legal requirements

?? Keeps abreast of finance standards

?? Explores new services with and outside of existing process areas to improve and add value to the business

Education/Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and actively studying towards

an accountancy qualification such as CIMA / ACCA (study support available) or recently

completed an Accounting or equivalent degree. Prior experience working within a finance

function of a manufacturing business. Other candidates will be considered with relevant

skills, experience and potential.

?? Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills

?? Understanding of accounting, ERP and CRM software. Systems implantation experience would be advantageous

?? Good interpersonal and communication skills
