We are recruiting a H&S Engineer for ensuring that BD Plymouth complies with relevant Health, Safety and environmental legislation as it effects the business, whilst promoting a positive Health and Safety culture. You will building relationships with different business teams and faculties with the primary objective of ensuring that associates work within a safe working environment.
As H&S Engineer, you will;
?? Assist all levels of management in implementing and maintaining the standards required of the health and Safety at work act, all other codes of practice and relevant standards.
?? Carry out risk assessments on assembly equipment new and old ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of associates is not compromised, considering how risks could be reduced.
?? Attend Business Team and PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Adjust) meetings offering advice, seeking best practice solutions and presenting statistical data where appropriate.
?? Complete COSHH Risk assessments, presenting them to departmental leaders and suggesting the most appropriate and pragmatic method of complying with the findings.
?? Conduct internal EHS audits in conjunction with departmental representatives and tracking any remedial work to completion.
?? Analyse Near Miss data, incident rates and identify areas of concern through software.
?? Identify the need for and carry out Health and Safety training with all associates.
?? Writing and maintaining safety procedures with regards to manufacturing equipment, chemical handling, workplace transport, manual handling and contractor management.
?? Assist with accident, incident and near miss investigations, offering advice and best practise solutions where appropriate.
?? Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation as it effects BD, its equipment, processes and legislative obligations. This may include attending meetings, reading journals and networking with Safety Professionals both within and external to BD.
?? Report unsafe occurrences and incidents to the HSE, EA, BDX and other notifiable bodies as and when required.
?? Assist with the concept, build, installation and validation of new machinery ensuring that new processes and equipment are introduced into the production environment with hazards identified and mitigated, ensuring the continued safety of associates.
?? As part of the BD Plymouth EHS Team, administer and maintain the Environmental Management system in accordance with ISO14001 and applicable regulations.
?? Planning practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial of promoting Health and safety and safe work practices.
?? Attending Blitz activities, Lean waste events, and safety committees as a representative of the EHS department, offering advice where it is appropriate and clarifying legislative requirements.
The successful candidate will ideally be educated to degree level (BSc or BEng) in a technical or engineering field or have equivalent experience. You will have a NEBOSH, IOSH or NVQ H&S qualification or equivalent experience. You will be a strong communicator, be able to manage without authority and build effective relationships across the business. You will be accustomed to delivering presentations to Senior Leadership Teams and also be comfortable in handling of external contractors. You will be IT literate and be able to pick up new software. You will be adept at influencing people and also at providing clear objectives, direction and guidance. You will have a high level appreciation for manufacturing machinery
