About us

Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning. We're looking for a Coastal In-Service Support Manager to join our In-Service Support Team within the North and East region.

The Coastal In-Service Support Managers support the RNLI by providing the necessary regional guidance, leadership, and direction to deliver the RNLI's four lines of assurance, to ensure the effective maintenance of the RNLI's boats, equipment and infrastructure.

Some of the benefits

- Salary of GBP35,993 - GBP42,345 (dependent on experience)
- Flexible working
- 26 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays
- Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary)
- Life assurance
- Health and dental cash plan

Your role

As a Coastal In-Service Support Manager, you will be tasked with focusing on the following areas:

- Conduct management and policy audits to provide assurance of local management capability and applications to policy and process, and support 'Independent Audits' and the completion of associated actions
- Manage the condition and audit of all assets (including relief) within your region, liaising with other Regional Technical Cells, Surveyors and Asset Planning as appropriate
- Support the Regional Engineering and Supply Lead with the management of the Regional Technical Cell (RTC), by deputising as required to provide the necessary prioritisation, planning, guidance and direction so that it operates in a safe, effective and efficient manner to ensure the technical elements of operational capability are achieved
- Develop key face-to-face relationships within lifeboat stations to foster good ISS/operational 'ways of working' and provide pastoral support where needed

About you

You'll be an effective team player with a pragmatic approach to problem solving and a calm approach to a busy workload. Working with both volunteers and staff, you will be a good communicator at all levels. Extensive travel is a part of this role, so a willingness to travel is essential; including nights away from home and some evenings to go afloat with our Lifesaving teams.

To be considered as the Coastal In-Service Support Manager role, you will need:

- A relevant engineering degree or MCA Class 1 or RN Charge certification or equivalent experience
- Considerable experience of engineering systems
- Excellent communication skills with evidence of meeting and managing the varied expectations of a large customer base

This role is based within the North and East region, predominantly working between Burnham on Crouch and Cleethorpes. However, you will be expected to travel within the wider region, and on occasion, throughout the UK and Ireland as required.

So, if you consider yourself to be an experienced engineer, with a passion to ensure our volunteers and staff are safely operating and maintaining our boats and equipment then please apply via the button shown.

This post requires a valid driving licence.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

The RNLI is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting).

We are an equal opportunities employer.
