Senior Highways Design Engineer

Becoming a Senior Highways Design Engineer with Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure:

A fantastic opportunity to secure an initial 6 months contract as a Senior Highways Design Engineer. The Senior Highways Design Engineer is an important operational and career development position in our organisation with key responsibilities to contribute to the development and implementation of projects and programmes of work whilst undertaking a range of technical aspects required for project delivery including feasibility and concept design, buildability, value engineering, detailed design, preparation of tender and contract specifications.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems and identifying options.
• Preparing detailed design highway improvement schemes to relevant standards including DMRB using Civils 3D and AutoCAD software including preparation of contract drawings and specifications.
• Delivering highway projects to our Joint Venture clients within budget and timescale.
• Preparing schemes for tender using the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works and Specification for Highway Works.
• Supervision of members of the project team, including resourcing, programming, allocating work and assisting in the training and development of staff, setting goals and monitoring their performance.
• Abide by the objectives and targets of both the section and the department and follow procedures and practices utilised in all aspects of the work, including computerised and manual systems and the maintenance of relevant records.

What we're looking for:

• Extensive senior level experience in the design, implementation and supervision of all aspects of highways and civil engineering design and construction.
• An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures. A working knowledge of standard highway and civil engineering specifications, conditions of contract and methods of measurement.
• Working knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidelines including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes and Codes of Practice.
• Project management including financial management of highway improvement schemes.

• Experience preparing detailed design highway improvement schemes to relevant standards including DMRB using Civils 3D and AutoCAD software including preparation of contract drawings and specifications.
• Experience of local authority/Welsh Government/Highways England delivery would be advantageous
• A full UK driving licence.
