South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking compassionate, caring and committed individuals to use advanced driving skills and provide support to our dedicated team of Paramedics attending accidents and sudden illnesses to join our holding pool as Emergency Care Assistants with a view to begining atraining courses in 2020/2021.
Emergency Care Assistants provide essential support to our team of qualified Paramedics to deliver high quality and effective clinical and personal care.
SWASFTprovide a wide range of emergency and urgent care services across a fifth of England covering Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the former Avon area. We are looking for applicants interested in all locations.
If you’re looking to make the most of your life skills in a challenging but extremely rewarding environment and are willing to work shifts, this could be the ideal opportunity for you. You will need a full, clean driving licence, including C1 category and minimum of two GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A-C including English Language or Literature, and Maths, or a Level 2 Functional Skills certificate or a Level 3 qualification in a heath care related subject.
Candidates must hold the Full C1 Category on their driving licence at the point of application.
On offer of employment, SWASFT will provide you with comprehensive clinical training and driver training to prepare you for the role of ECA. The Role
As an Emergency Care Assistant you will attend cases of accident and sudden illness and respond to urgent, special and planned patient transfer requests. You will use advanced driving skills under blue light and normal traffic conditions to respond to emergency and routine calls as required.
You will be required to assist a qualified clinician to support the provision of high quality and effective clinical, personal, social and holistic care to patients.

The nature of this role often means the ECA will be assisting the qualified clinician in dealing with life and death situations. You need to be compassionate, caring and committed.
You need to enjoy helping people whilst understanding their needs and treating them with dignity and respect. You need to be enthusiastic, reliable, self-disciplined and flexible.
- Able to work the shift patterns as required, including unsocial hours and weekends?
- Able to stay calm in pressurised and emotional situations. Able to handle sensitive situations assertively and tactfully?
- Are you able to deal with blood?
- Due to the emergency nature of the services provided by SWASFT, staff may be required in the interest of patient safety to work beyond their normal finishing time, are you prepared for this?

*Full salary of £19,737 per annum will be paid on completion of probationary period. During this period (3-6 months, subject to reviews) you will receive a reduced salary of £17,050.71 per annum. Upon successful completion of the 8 week training course and commencement on station, you will also receive unsocial in this role.
