Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is seeking an Application Support Officer to work in their busy IT team at our Service Headquarters, Tovil, Kent. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis in return for a competitive salary of GBP22,218 - GBP35,045 per annum (depending on experience).

Our Application Support Officer will be providing support to users of software applications used by colleagues across the Service. You will be expected to support users in their day to day use of the applications, input and maintain system parameters for legislative and procedural changes, resolve system faults and liaise with software suppliers.

This post provides support for specific business applications (Kronos, iTrent, BusinessWorld, STORM, Moodle, Tranman and Dynamics/CRM to name a few).

You will also support the manager in the development of the business applications in line with business requirements and IT Service Plan and assist in the development of associated systems.

Key responsibilities as our Application Support Officer:

- Support customers by investigating and resolving application errors, data discrepancies and queries that 1st line support are unable to.

- Liaise with software suppliers on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfil user requirements.

- Assist the implementation of IT application projects. Provide technical input where required.

- Examine application functionality and performance and provide information about how it can be improved.

- Process any user set up that cannot be undertaken by 1st line support, ensuring that all necessary data and approval have been provided.

- To participate in software testing for new releases where required.

- To undertake activities related to system maintenance and upgrades that are conducted in and out of normal working hours.

- To work with the relevant Application Support Manager to identify and prioritise system enhancements/changes.

- Analyse data from systems and produce technical and business reports for consumption by Management.

- Work with IT Training in the provisions of content and knowledge for user training and training materials.

- Proactively manage data quality.

- Maintain interfaces, exports and imports, and ensure their smooth running where required.

- Manage interfaces, defined operational systems processes and data extracts.

- Write, run reports, interfaces and routines to support day to day business operations.

- Document work, take part in user meetings and assist in presenting issues and solutions both orally and in writing.

- Assists in defining acceptance tests for new and changed systems.

What we're looking for in our Application Support Officer:

- Awareness of the structure of relational databases, and how data is stored and linked within the tables

- Advanced knowledge of database management and database development

- Advanced knowledge of business database applications based on SQL or similar

- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)

- Proven reasoning and analytical skills

- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills to enable resolution of problems within relational databases

- Use of report writing tools to interrogate databases

- Proven data extraction, configuration, manipulation and analysis skills

- High level of communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and communicate with a wide range of customers

- Ability to use own initiative, to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to respond positively to change

- GCSE or equivalent standard of English and mathematics

- Relevant practical experience within similar work environment
