THE ROLE

Experienced Operatives

Due to an increase in business, Palmer Group are recruiting additional experienced Traffic Management Operatives for 12AB, 12C and 12D work.

Trainee Operatives

Palmer Group are also recruiting new trainees to the industry. Trainees will join our in-house training and development programmer, led by our own Lantra trainer and assessor. There are long-term career prospects on offer.

Training

Trainees new to the industry will be trained on the full range of temporary traffic management for urban and rural roads - for example, this includes road closures, lane closures, operating temporary traffic lights, setting out traffic diversion routes, and helping pedestrians at road works. Successful candidates can progress to high speed traffic management operations working on dual carriageways and motorways. Training consists of classroom courses and practical assessments.

Skills and Knowledge

Our industry is well suited for those who like variety, travelling and working outdoors. You will often be working closely with our clients onsite and you will frequently be meeting members of the public. You must therefore be capable of reflecting the qualities of Palmer Group at all times - you must be

A flexible approach to your working hours is required.

Working on the highway requires the wearing of full 6 point personal protection equipment (PPE) - hard hat, safety glasses, long sleeve high visibility clothing, high visibility trousers, safety boots and gloves. All company PPE is supplied to you, but you may have to provide you own safety boots. You will be working outdoors in all weathers, when it is safe to do so. You will need to wear your full PPE all the time when working on the highway - including when the weather is hot and sunny.
Candidates with qualifications, experience, and skills in other industries are welcome to apply and we can discuss how your experiences might transfer across to the traffic management industry.

Essential Qualifications

• A driving licence is essential
• Operatives undertaking 12AB or 12C works will be required to undertake and pass a Safety Critical Medical assessment.

Desirable Qualifications

• Other construction / skilled worker qualifications .e.g. street works, technical trades
• HGV driving licence
• CSCS card

Legal Requirements

• Legal authority to work in the UK
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Drugs and alcohol testing are undertaken at the point of induction
• In line with our Quality Standards, random drugs and alcohol testing is conducted by a specialist contractor upon all operatives, and at least every 6 months.

We provide an integrated solution for VRS works by both providing the traffic management to make the working area safe, and then the infrastructure and skilled workforce to carry out the works to the VRS.
