Company Description

The Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre (VMIC) has been established to provide the UK's first strategic vaccine development and advanced manufacturing capability. VMIC will fast track development and manufacture of early stage vaccine products, as well as serve as the UK's response capability to produce vaccines against emerging infectious diseases. They have already taken a leading role in the Government's national response to COVID-19.

Working through collaborative ventures with industry, academia and NGOs, VMIC will ultimately strengthen and innovate the UK's vaccines sector. Their state-of-the-art vaccines manufacturing facility will be located on the renowned Harwell Science and Innovation Campus near Didcot in Oxfordshire.

Job Description
VMIC are in the process of constructing the facility at the Harwell Campus near Didcot in Oxfordshire. They are looking for a Production Manager to join their emerging team. Initially this role will be working between VMIC's temporary facility (at Oxford Biomedica) and the new facility which is being built. Deputising and supporting the Head of Manufacturing, providing ownership of the virtual facility transfer to the Harwell campus in 2021.
The key objectives of the role are:

Overseeing all phases of manufacturing under GMP regulations serving as the SME
Provide mentorship, leadership and guidance for development within manufacturing
Co-ordinate the safe day to day operations to meet quality, collaborators demands and cost targets
Responsible for a team of Manufacturing Team Leaders and Operators
Complete operational readiness of the facility
Recruit, train and develop a team
Implementation of systems and procedures
Identify root causes of manufacturing issues and implement corrective action to minimize downtime with a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost, in that order
Accountable for seeking new initiatives to improve production performance and leading CI (Continuous Improvement) activities.Personal Specification
In order to be considered for the role candidates will need to hold a Bachelor's degree in science/engineering or have equivalent experience of working within a pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical / biotech / vaccine manufacturing facility. Good knowledge of aseptic manufacturing, bioprocessing / up / downstream and GMP plant equipment is highly desirable. Production managerial experience in a similar environment is essential.
