Overview

First Military Recruitment is working on partnership with our client, a family business established since 1948 to recruit an experienced Shift Electrician for their plant in Airdrie.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Electro/Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) you will be responsible for the repairs and maintenance, service to the company site and subsidiary buildings within the area of trade competence. In addition any other duties as instructed by senior management.

MAINTAIN COMPANY'S PRODUCTION PLANT, SITE FACILITIES AND SERVICES

  • General workshop duties such as providing breakdown cover for the factory and carrying out general engineering tasks safely and unaided
  • Part of a technical team engaged in maintaining and repairing physical structures and utility systems of buildings and maintaining grounds utilising the company preventative maintenance software systems (PEMAC)
  • Maintaining an adequate level of workshop spares to meet the production requirements and contributing to stock control requirements for an allocated area
  • Completing planned maintenance work orders
  • Ensuring all auditable paper work is completed and filed correctly
  • Receive and issue site/hot permits to work
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to maintenance and assist in the development of PEMAC as a preventative maintenance mechanism

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work undertaken is carried out to the standard required by the Engineering Manager, that all appropriate safety legislation is observed and reports any potentially unsafe working methods, installations or equipment
  • Record and communicate hazards, risks and near misses
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment
  • Take responsibility for performance and decisions
  • Control emissions and waste to minimise environmental impact. Ensuring all environmental incidents are reported, fully investigated with actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Challenge constructively existing ideas and practices
  • Mentoring of apprentices and subordinates and shift lead where appropriate
  • Ability to tackle more complex engineering tasks with minimal support and assistance
  • Continuous self-development with respect to, machinery, current trends, legislation and processes understanding
  • Effective communications between cross functional teams and successful shift handovers
  • Creating method statements and risk assessments
  • Actively participate in team meetings and find solutions to issues raised
  • Development and implementation of quality effective maintenance routines
  • Ensure adherence to all business processes and procedures actively drive improvements that eliminate waste in the processes
  • Optimisation and improvement of Planned \ Predictive \ Corrective Maintenance activities
  • Support Project implementations
  • Give constructive feedback in a way that drives performance and encourages commitment to achieving targets
  • Actively encourage team members to share knowledge and observations, ideas, improvements and best practices by supporting and encouraging team work
  • Support other sites within the Company

The candidate

The ideal candidate would be able to work with the minimum of supervision and have experience of the following:-

  • p.l.c. controls, d.c. drives, electronics and frequency controllers.
  • It would be an advantage to have experience on complex fast moving machinery.
  • Qualified to O.N.C. level or equivalent with an electrical craft certificate.
  • FMCG experience is essential

Essential Qualifications

  • Time Served recognised apprenticeship
  • Numeracy and literacy skills
  • Basic IT Skills


The individual will be required to work shifts (details below) and support in Jersey during the months for April to August (usually in week / forntightly blocks)

August to April

Shift pattern is a 3 week pattern doing Days, Back shift then Nights

  • Day shift: Mon-Thu 06:00-15:00 and Friday 07:30- 16:30
  • (No back shift in on a Friday is the reason for the later start)
  • Back shift: Sun 08:00-17:00 and Mon-Thu 14:00-11:00
  • Night Shift: Mon-Thu 22:00-08:30 (4 x 10hr 30min shifts- paid for 10 hours)

April to August

This will work on a rota of 3 weeks day shift 1 week back shift
