Bridgnorth Aluminium Ltd has firmly established itself as a trusted supplier of rolled Aluminium products since 1933. Our knowledge and experience spans many decades, evident in the work we do today to which we supply the Lithographic, Automotive, Canned Body Stock and Foil Sectors of Industry. We are a 74 acre site which is located; as the name implies, in the historic town of Bridgnorth and within a 25min commute from towns such as Telford, Shrewsbury, Kidderminster and Wolverhampton, 40mins from Birmingham, Worcester, Stafford and Redditch.

We are recruiting for an Environmental Officer to work within our Aluminium Manufacturing Facility. The Environmental Officer will work to support and assisting the Sustainability Manager in maintaining and developing the development of the company Environmental Management System.

Due to the nature of the role, we do require candidates to have post degree experience of working in this position - minimum 3 years.

They will be the first point of contact in advising and assisting in the improvement and coordinating of the environmental management system and promoting a proactive environmental management culture across site.

Environmental Officer - Main tasks will include:

* Environment Management System - ISO 14001:2015

* Maintaining and implementing the environmental management system, including associated procedures, policies and forms.

* Maintaining documentation and reports for various environmental data and system documents

* Maintaining the EHS -Sustainability Sharepoint (Intranet) page (with others)

* Carrying out environmental incident investigation procedures when required and carrying out internal audits and assisting the external auditors when on-site

* Assisting Management in developing a culture of environmental awareness and engagement across site and advising Management when required and providing succinct and usable data for reports and meetings

Reporting and Site Duties

* Conducting regular site checks including monitoring waste management, waste transfer documentation, spill kit provision.

* Preparing specific reports on environmental management performance via monitoring of key environmental indicators and maintaining all necessary communication with the relevant regulatory bodies

* Coordinating environmental contractors on site e.g. waste contractors, remediation specialists, emissions testing.

* Updating the adverse event logs, ensuring that they are actioned in a timely manner

Training

* Assist in delivering 'Toolbox talks' regarding environmental management and best practice for staff

* Delivering environmental inductions

* Liaising with the Training Officer to ensure environmental training is up-to-date and in conjunction with the Training Officer ensuring relevant training programmes are implemented including but not limited to:

* Waste Awareness

* Spill Response

* ASI - Aluminium Stewardship Initiative

* Assist the Projects department in the impact assessment of proposed projects and with others, assist in projects to help deliver biodiversity improvement initiatives and the promotion of environmental awareness through specific communication campaigns.

Environmental Officer - The successful candidate will need:

* ESSENTIAL - Bachelor's Degree in relevant Environmental/Science background - Earth Sciences or Environmental Sciences (Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Engineering etc.) or Sustainability

* ESSENTIAL - IEMA Membership at associate/practitioner level or working towards this membership

* ESSENTIAL - A high level of technical understanding in the environmental management field and previous experience within an EHS environment attained in a manufacturing or engineering sector

* The ability to write concise and cogent reports, policies and procedures etc.

* A positive, 'can-do' attitude, integrity, professionalism with a creative and adaptive approach under pressure with the ability to multitask and undertake routine tasks

* Strong IT skills including experience of Microsoft packages (namely Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook) with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) longer working hours or working over weekends/holidays might be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
