Merchant Trainee Apprenticeship

Who are Local Merchant Group?
Local Merchant Group (also known as LMG) are part of multinational organisation Saint-Gobain. We are made up of 9 Builders Merchant brands, with branches across the UK and Ireland. As Builders Merchants, it's our job provide a wide range of building materials to trade customers, from carpenters to tilers and groundworkers to DIY enthusiasts.
The day-to-day role
We are currently looking for apprentices to join our business in our Gibbs & Dandy brand, in Stevenage.
On our apprenticeship programme, you will join us as a Merchant Trainee, based in one of our branches. In this role you will work in a range of our departments such as the yard and the sales counter, getting to grips with our business, our customers and our products.
On a typical day you will deal with a number of our customers both face to face and on the phone. The day will be very busy, and you can expect a lot of banter with both your team and your customers as you work.
Your learning and development
After your first 3 months with the business, you will begin your apprenticeship training. During the course, which will last between 12-18 months, you will learn more about our business, our operations and how to provide great customer service.
The majority of your learning will be on the job, however you will also need to study independently for a few hours a week to reinforce your new skill set.
Upon completion of the course, you will be awarded your apprenticeship qualification and will be offered a full time role in the organisation.
