Are you an experienced Support Worker, used to working with clients with complex disabilities? Do you like to work within a private home environment as part of a team of carers providing excellent care to a client?

The Client

Our client is a bubbly 23 year old young woman with complex needs and requires a high level of supervision and care in all areas. Our client has cerebral palsy which allows limited independent mobility and causes uncontrolled movements of her arms and legs. She uses a wheelchair which affords some independent mobility however she requires help with all transfers. Our client has difficulty controlling all muscles including those used for eating and drinking and she has unclear speech although her receptive language is unimpaired. Our client also has epilepsy which is managed with medication and diet. As a result of her physical disabilities and a significant learning disability, our client can exhibit some challenging behaviours.

Living within an adapted family home, our client lives with her parents and siblings and enjoys the company of happy, outgoing people. She enjoys many activities including arts and crafts and socialising, she has a great sense of humour and an admirable self-determination which has enabled her to achieve qualifications and to live a varied and fulfilled life.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced female support worker to join the existing team of carers and therapists to help implement the daily therapeutic programmes and contribute to the high level of care provided. In addition to client care, you will be required to assist with client related domestic chores, for example helping to clear up after kitchen tasks and tidy the client's room. You should be a competent and cooperative team worker with good communication skills to facilitate effective liaison between your colleagues, the client's parents, the therapy team, the team leader and the case manager. It is a requirement of the role that you should be able to offer flexibility in your working life and be able to accompany the client on days or evenings out, holidays or short breaks if required.

Experience of working with clients with cerebral palsy and epilepsy is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn is essential as full training will be given to the successful candidate. Working within a family home, it is vital that the successful candidate is sensitive to the family and must be respectful, reliable and trustworthy with an appreciation of the need for privacy and confidentiality.
