Medical Assessors - Birmingham & West Midlands

- Part Time
We have opportunities for psychiatrists to become a Medical Assessor in regulatory work - to consider health matters for pharmacy professionals.
Do you want to apply your skills as a psychiatrist to help assure patients and their families that they can receive safe care from pharmacy professionals?
Medical Assessors provide advice on health matters to the GPhC’s statutory committees.
As part of our work to uphold standards, we have three independent statutory committees: the investigating committee, the fitness to practise and the appeals committees, which decide on concerns about pharmacy professionals.
As part of their role in advising the GPhC, Medical Assessors undertake an assessment of a pharmacy professional at our request and then draft an impartial medical report. The purpose of the report is to provide evidence about any health condition, if it is being managed by the pharmacy professional and to provide an expert opinion on any risks that the condition may present to the pharmacy professional, patients and the public.
In cases where a fitness to practise hearing is scheduled, the Medical Assessor is expected to give evidence; all hearings take place at our London offices. Due to Covid-19, some hearings are being conducted remotely.
It is expected that Medical Assessors will be required to undertake a minimum of two assessments per month, subject to a variation of workload. We want to make sure we have a good coverage across Great Britain. As a result we invite applicants based in the North East, the West Midlands, the East Midlands, the South West and South Wales. The role is remunerated and reasonable expenses will be covered (in line with the GPhC’s expenses policy) full details are provided within the role description below.
