Cathcart Energy are recruiting a Service Engineer who will carry out maintenance and fault finding on onshore wind turbines as directed by the Operations Manager with assistance from the local Team Leader to ensure maximum turbine availability to the customer.

You will need to daily travel to Service Centre and wind farms within a defined area.

The principal accountabilities for the role are to follow up errors and repair faults to maximise turbine availability for customers.

Perform preventative maintenance according to the service manual and carry out other maintenance as required to ensure turbines run to specification and meet manufacturers' warranties.

Assist the Technical Support Manager and Operations Manager to analyse faults and establish solutions to maximise turbine availability.

Work with Team Leader, Site Manager and Health and Safety Adviser to carry out all work in a safe manner under the Health and Safety Management System, Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) and legislation.

Participate in all Health & Safety Training, including First Aid, to enable emergency response assistance for colleagues when difficulties arise.

As the Service Engineer, you will work in teams of 2 to 3. If a fault occurs, the PMS Centre will be alerted. PMS will undertake remote monitoring and decide whether to call an engineer to the site (engineers are on call from 6 am until 8 pm).

This means you will need to exercise technical judgement and decide whether the fault can be repaired safely within a reasonable timescale in the event of being called out, or whether to leave the job until the next day.

You will, from time to time, meet customers on-site, so good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

The work is both technically and physically demanding.

You will need to work at height in harsh conditions; therefore, a high level of physical fitness is essential.

The administrative side of the job is also important, you must ensure activities are documented and recorded using the company reporting system. Therefore, good written communication skills and computer literacy are required.

Close, effective working with colleagues and the Team Leader is critical due to the remoteness of sites and Health and Safety responsibilities.

Knowledge/Skills and Experience

  • Experience of servicing and maintaining electrical industrial plant (including knowledge and working experience of a mechanical rotating plant)
  • ONC level or equivalent experience in electrical engineering. Similar qualifications and experience in mechanical engineering would also be considered.
  • Ideally, have experience of Method Statement and Risk Assessments production and use in the workplace
  • Working knowledge of the UK Health and Safety regulations would be advantageous
  • Experience working within the Wind Power industry would be highly advantageous
  • Full current driving license
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office packages
