Technician Boatbuilder
Poole, Dorset
GBP13.47 per hour plus excellent pension scheme and 26 days' holiday, plus Bank Holidays
Our vision is to save everyone. It may take us a long time to get there, but drowning is preventable, and we believe that even one drowning is one too many. We are all lifesavers. We are all fundraisers. This is our watch.
The ALC (All-weather Lifeboat Centre), which officially opened in August 2015, is our very own boat building facility which brings every stage of the lifeboat building process in-house and under one roof.
The ALC also undertakes refits and repairs of existing Lifeboats in-house. Refit work has more than doubled in the last 3 years, with the introduction of 4 additional all weather Lifeboat cells to the ALC's ongoing program. A fantastic opportunity has arisen here at the ALC for a skilled Boatbuilder to join our existing Refit team.
Our cutting edge All-weather Lifeboat Centre boasts two boat halls with flexible bays for manufacturing and maintaining lifeboats, component manufacturing area, a launch, recovery and boat storage area, paint preparation area with built-in extraction system and heat curing facility, a workshop for supporting our inshore training fleet, office facilities, tools and equipment storage and a visitors' viewing area.
As a Technician Boatbuilder, you will be responsible for the construction, installation, modification and repair/maintenance of marine structures and equipment for all classes of Lifeboat. The work will involve a variety of boatbuilding disciplines, including composite repairs, vessel strip down and assembly, and deck fitout.
You must be able to work to Engineering drawings and standardised work, safely and efficiently. You will be working as a member of a multi-disciplined team ensuring that lifeboats are built on time and within budget, meeting the RNLI's stringent quality standards.
It is essential you have relevant City and Guilds or NVQ level 3/BTEC qualifications, time served apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
Previous experience of Marine refits and repairs, and working with epoxy composite materials, is desirable.
Come and join us in the build of this centre of excellence and help save lives at sea.
The RNLI is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out dependent on the eligibility of the role. (England & Wales; DBS check, Scotland; Disclosure Scotland PVG, Northern Ireland; Access NI, Republic of Ireland; Garda Vetting).
We are an equal opportunities employer.
The closing date for this role is the 4th October 2020.
