Investigative Reporter - YorkshireLive

Yorkshire Live is a force of nature, becoming the biggest and fastest growing website in God's Own Country within six months of launch. We are now looking to invest in that success. You will be joining a team that delivers quality news, entertainment and live content that is never boring and is committed to having a positive impact on the local communities we serve. We tackle issues without fear or favour but retain a humour and inclusive personality that befits our brilliant county. It's about our audience, not about us. We are Yorkshire!

We are looking for an Investigations Reporter, who will shine a light on those issues of public interest that some in authority would rather remain hidden. In this role, you will work to reveal the truth on subjects deemed important by our audience and ensure public governance is held to the highest standard.
We're looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to deliver the stories you believe are important from our many communities. Here at Reach, we strongly believe in the benefits of flexible working, work/life balance and autonomy in our day to day jobs.

Key Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

  • You will lead thorough and imaginative investigations, uncovering, researching and telling the stories which matter and are important to local people
  • You will write with passion and conviction in holding authority to account, and be comfortable working across subject matters, from politics to crime
  • You will break important, original and exclusive stories, and work with content editors to set the agenda on the topics that matter
  • You will act as an authority and ambassador for the brand you write for, externally and online/on social media
  • You will build communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and engaged with readers about those stories
  • You will tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, article format, video, audio and pictures

The Ideal Candidate

Who are we looking for?

  • For senior journalists, we are looking for candidates with an NCTJ (or equivalent) qualification. For trainee journalists, we are looking for candidates working towards an NCTJ (or equivalent) qualification.
  • You will have a track record in telling stories, accurately, which engage large audiences
  • You will have a proven track record for digital storytelling
  • You will have excellent social media skills and enjoy building communities on social platforms
  • You will have digital publishing skills - working a CMS, shooting video and taking pictures
  • A driving licence is desirable for this role
