This job can be done from any city in England, and can also be part remote. We would expect someone to be in the office (located in your nearest city) perhaps once a week.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Architect to join our Data and Analytics team. You will be an integral part of a small, ambitious team of 8 within the larger company, that are looking to grow sustainably but quickly. Waterstons have been awarded Gold Investors in People for a fourth consecutive time, so you know you will be well looked after working with us.

The Data and Analytics Team operates as a well-protected and supported start-up within our company - we have strong ties and relationships with the rest of the business but we have a huge amount of autonomy to do what we need to do in the way that we want to do it.

If you enjoy working with data and have a desire to help to build something exciting and sustainable, we would really love to talk to you.

About you

* You are able to juggle multiple concurrent projects of varying size and commitment sometimes. Even if you are long term on a single project for a client, you'll almost certainly also be helping people on other projects and helping out with proposals and client meetings.

* You have good team leadership skills. You won't necessarily have line management responsibility, but we'll need you to lead, nurture and support junior members on the projects you're on, manage back logs, help to allocate work and talk to clients.

* You are more about implementation than strategy, more doing than talking.

* You are happy to ask for help. You understand and accept your own strengths and weaknesses at a fundamental level and are keen to work with others who bring their own strengths.

* Experience working in a consultancy environment would be useful but, otherwise, you need a good understanding of how being part of a consultancy might differ from being a member of an in-house team.

We're looking for someone with most or all of the following technical skills and experience:

* Database technologies, ideally SQL. Querying, designing and building

* Working with ERP / CRM (or other business systems) to find and extract data

* Designing / building ETL pipelines (really any technology but we use SSIS / Azure Data Factory)

* Multi-dimensional and tabular data modelling

* Visualisation - we're not overly bothered about the tool, to be honest, but we tend to recommend Power BI to our clients but we've worked with Tableau and Qlik too. Good with finding the right way to display data generally

* Project management at a smaller scale

* Gathering customer requirements and turning them into a plan for implementation

* Running training sessions on visualisation tools and/or data literacy

* Experience of master data management, data governance and data strategies a bonus but not essential

Your responsibilities as part of the team will include:

* Leading small teams of our people to gather and understand requirements from our clients and then to deliver appropriate solutions including setting up data exports, building data warehouses and developing reports

* Being part of and leading teams made up of our people and our clients' people to deliver projects in partnership with our clients

* Taking responsibility for the training and nurturing of our junior people on-the-job. Ensuring that they are getting the skills needed and are a useful and active participant in projects

* Talking to clients and prospects about what we can do as a team, listening to client problems and coming up with solutions and plans for implementation. Pricing and resourcing those solutions

* Discussing wider data requirements with clients and proposing suitable architectures that will fulfil those requirements given a client's budget and appetite for risk

* Training a small client team in how to use Power BI most effectively given their business needs.

* Building reports in conjunction with a client's senior folk that allows them to get timely and accurate answers to key business questions.

* Talking to clients and prospects about what we can do as a team. Listening to client problems and coming up with solutions and plans for implementation. Being confident to challenge clients when experience tells us that their assumptions are incorrect or that there is potentially a better way to solve their problems
