JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to:Registered Manager
Accountable to:Proprietor
Hours of Work:According to contract of employment
Job Purpose:
To lead the support the team in planning, delivering and evaluating care, striving always for excellence; maintaining a high standard of care and support for residents in accordance with standards set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2008, or any other act that may supersede it.
To demonstrate and maintain a commitment to practice that is forward thinking, informed, innovative and evidence based, and the maintenance of the highest standards of professional conduct at all times.
To support the Registered Manager and manage the running of the care home in her absence.
Deputy Manager will set a positive example and at all times support their colleagues to ensure that, where possible, residents' choices can be exercised; that the rights of the residents are met at all times; and to facilitate, where possible the means for residents to have greater independence and to create pathways to wider community opportunity.
1.Resident Care/Quality
?? In liaison with the Registered Manager, ensure that residents' support and care plans are compiled and implemented, are resident centred, understood and agreed by the resident, working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team
?? In liaison with the Registered Manager, work with individual residents to complete their support/care plan, and work with the support worker team to bring about the best possible recovery outcome within the limitations of individual residents' conditions and presentation.
?? Assist with the compilation of an informed, current, full risk assessment for each allocated resident
  • Call, attend and participate in residents' meetings as required
?? In liaison with the Registered Manager, carry out regular and timely reviews/evaluations of the support plans and risk assessments to ensure a seamless process of clinical interventions, taking due regard to changes in resident presentation or clinical incidents
?? Support staff to endeavor to achieve residents potential no matter how small.This may include the re-learning of skills in cooking, laundry, cleaning, budgeting etc for a group of residents allocated by the Registered Manager
?? Assist in and organise the admission, leave and discharge of the residents
?? Assist in the pre-assessment of potential residents as delegated by the Registered Manager
?? Be actively involved in leading sessional activities for the residents including one-to-ones
?? Assist the Registered Manager to carry out annual appraisals
?? Promote effective communication between staff, the wider multi-disciplinary team and external agencies with regard to resident care and other operational duties
?? Ensure all forms of written communication are completed at all times to a high standard, including the timely submission of reports or other supplementary documentation
?? Ensure a full and comprehensive 'activities' schedule is utilised, monitored and audited regularly
2. Staffing
?? Provide advice and support to other staff in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care and support
  • Develop and maintain morale among the staff through effective leadership, consultation and communication
  • Carry out 'supervision' with support workers
  • Call, participate in and chair staff and team meetings
  • Attend and contribute in managers' meetings
  • Participate in staff handovers and identify areas for improvement in communication methods
  • Act as support worker and / or lead shifts when required
?? Actively participate with the Registered Manager in all aspects regarding the recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff
  • Carry out informal and formal teaching sessions for other staff where trained and experienced sufficiently to do so
  • Carry out staff inductions as directed
?? Work with the Registered Manager on implemention of the Disciplinary and Grievance procedure of the home.The Proprietor must be informed before these procedures are actioned
  • Cover for the absence of staff members where possible
?? Be available 'on call' when off duty to respond to emergencies and queries that can't be dealt with by staff on duty
  • Develop and maintain high levels of staff morale through demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment which positively supports the concept of change by contributing ideas for the improvement of residents' care and support
  • Ensure that authorisation has been gained from the Registered Manager (Proprietor in RM's absence) before booking any agency staff or High Oaks' staff additional to that on the rota
  • Mentor the supervision of students / apprentices who may be on placement
?? Demonstrate effective time management through prioritising tasks and ensuring appropriate delegation of tasks to support staff team on each shift, ensuring best use of resources and personnel available
3. Communication
?? Liaise with professional visitors and relatives to provide information and support
?? Maintain accurate, informative communication with staff, residents and outside agencies
?? Be responsible with the Registered Manager (Proprietor in RM's absence) for ensuring that all complaints or concerns of the services provided are responded to quickly and effectively in accordance with the home's complaints policy
4. Environmental
  • Be aware of the need to maintain safety and security of the building
?? Manage and monitor the schedule of developments of building works and improvements and oversee the general maintenance and health & safety of the building
  • Bring to the attention of the Registered Manager or Proprietor, defects or matters of health and safety in the home
  • Actively participate in maintaining high cleanliness standards in the home
5. Financial
  • In liaison with the Registered Manager, be responsible for petty cash expenditure and expenditure on behalf of residents, ensuring accurate recording and adherence of the relevant policy/guidelines
  • Have access to a managers' bank account.Expenditure from the account for necessary items or services are limited to GBP100 without prior approval from the Proprietor.
  • Ensure expenditure is receipted and recorded appropriately in accordance with any system in place
6. Personal and Professional Responsibilities/Other
?? Work in such a manner as to ensure a positive and co-operative relationship with all colleagues, residents and visitors
?? Have access to a wide range of confidential information, which must not be divulged to any unauthorised person, in any circumstances
?? Abide by the legal requirements of relevant acts e.g. Health and Safety at Work, COSHH
?? Partake in mandatory and other training as organised
?? Demonstrate competency in performance of procedures
?? Take responsibility for ensuring an up to date knowledge of developments in mental health care settings
?? Contribute to the development of the home and its related services through effective promotion and capitalisation of market opportunities
?? Maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant procedures
?? Adhere to any policies and procedures in place and assist in the update of existing policy and development of new policy as appropriate
?? Be aware of, and practice within, the legal requirements of the current Mental Health Acts, Mental Capacity Act, Depravation of Liberty Act, Health and Social Care Act 2008 and any other relevant acts in existence or that may be introduced
?? Work on a fully flexible shift pattern to meet the needs of the 24-hour service the Company provides
?? Report to the Administrator (Registered Manager if not available) in any matters concerning personnel i.e. annual leave, sickness
?? Work in accordance with the Company's time and attendance procedure to include submission of timesheets within the specified timeframe
?? Where appointed, undertake the role of named first aider
