Information about the school

Folkestone Academy Primary is part of Folkestone All-Age Academy. We are a two form entry school but have chosen to organise children into smaller classes, recognising the many benefits for both children and members of staff.

Each year group work closely as a team: we ensure that less experienced members of staff work along side more experienced so that they are well-supported.

We are a forward-thinking school, committed to enabling children to acquire fundamental literacy and maths skills, while developing individual strengths and talents. We are determined that every child in our school is happy and successful, through providing high standards of academic learning opportunities and pastoral care. Learning is underpinned by three key aspects of practice: Building Learning Power (children understanding themselves as learners); Assessment for Learning; and Talk for Writing. Children come to our school to be happy and successful. They will leave us as confident, self-assured, positive young people who love to learn, to contribute and to achieve

We offer pupils a dedicated staff who are committed to developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding which will enable children to enjoy learning, achieve success and to feel contented and fulfilled. We ensure that our children learn about, and have confidence in, themselves as learners.

As an inclusive, caring school where every child matters, we recognise that all children have talents and abilities to enjoy, and a part of our role is to help them discover and develop these. We encourage a strong community spirit, where we show consideration for each other, understand differences, and uphold kind, well-mannered behaviour.

In being the Primary School in an All Age Academy we will retain the overview of a child's learning journey from pre-school to post sixth form, building the All Age cohesion which will bring about the best educational and personal development opportunities for all of our children and the community in which they live, and fulfilling our high expectations. At the end of Year 6 our children have the right to transfer into the Senior School if this is the parental preference, although, of course, other options will remain available.

The learning community of Folkestone Primary Academy has a shared vision that every child deserves to be successful. We challenge and develop our children to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated through a rich and varied curriculum, appropriate to individual needs. Through Building Learning Power to develop children's learning skills and setting high expectations and exacting standards, we prepare our children to flourish and gain confidence and self belief, to develop as life long learners.

Folkestone Primary Academy is inclusive and is fully committed to meeting the needs of all children and enabling learners to achieve their full potential.

Folkestone Academy forms part of Turner Schools, a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) based in Folkestone, on the beautiful Kent coast, a town recently voted among the coolest places to live in the UK.

Turner Schools is committed to ensuring success without selection for our pupils by teaching them the core knowledge and life skills they need to thrive in the modern world.

Our mission is to set a new standard in non-selective education, empowering our pupils with cultural capital. In this way we will contribute to the regeneration of the region. We call this mission sea-change.

Following Aristotle's philosophy we believe that educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.

Accordingly we have encapsulated the Trust's ethos and values in the acronym HEART meaning we have:

High Expectations - Our staff must be committed to enabling all pupils to succeed in education & in life.

Enthusiasm - We are committed to positive attitudes towards learning and work.

Academics - Our curriculum is academically rigorous, founded on tried & tested subjects. We work with the Core Knowledge Foundation & Read Write Inc.

Reading - Everyone is a reader in Turner Schools - it's our job to teach & share the joy of reading.

Teamwork - We are one Team.

Our HEART model gives stakeholders, staff, pupils and parents a common language.

Our Schools:

Folkestone All Age Academy, Morehall Primary School, Martello Primary School, Turner Free School.
