Are you passionate about data and looking for the opportunity to work closely with subject matter experts in the scientific space to solve data challenges? This could be the perfect opportunity to utilise your expertise in a cause driven environment helping Cancer Research to beat cancer sooner.

Cancer Research UK's Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is the in-house CRUK drug discovery unit, with a principal focus on establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with commercial partners. Based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre, London, TDL comprises over 80 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds.

This is an exciting new role for a data specialist with a background in data analysis and management and an interest in drug discovery to join our Informatics Team, which supports multiple aspects of the drug-discovery project lifecycle. As an Informatician you will be working directly with our scientists to support data management processes across all stages of the drug discovery process. Previous experience in drug discovery is not required as on the job training will be provided where needed, however a familiarity with scientific data would be highly beneficial.

What will I be doing?

  • Maintaining existing data processes and protocols including data capture, analysis, search, and visualisation
  • Working with laboratory staff to extend and develop current data analysis and capture methods
  • Providing first line support, including troubleshooting and training, on informatics systems and processes to TDL staff
  • Interacting with specialist informatics support at supplier organisations to resolve issues and contribute to ongoing systems development
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate operational procedures, documentation and training material
  • Applying and fostering best practices in data capture, transformation, analysis and visualisation

Who we're looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a scientific or computational discipline
  • Good understanding of data transformation, processing, querying and visualisation techniques (ETL/ELT, SQL, data warehouses, dashboards)
  • Understanding of good experimental design and the application of statistical methodologies for the interpretation of experimental data
  • Experience working with informatics software platforms would be advantageous but is not essential (we use Dotmatics, IDBS ActivityBase and Titian Mosaic)
  • Proven working knowledge of relational databases (experience with Oracle 12c would be highly beneficial but is not essential)
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner

Job titles you may have had in previous organisations could be: Data analyst, data specialist, BI developer, informatics analyst, clinical analyst, information analyst, data manager and performance and informatics partner.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team helping to progress data-driven drug discovery and contribute directly to patient benefit, if this is the challenge you have been looking for then we would love to hear from you.

What will I gain?

  • You'll be making a real difference to people's lives - we're the largest global Cancer Research charity.
  • There's plenty of career progression and training opportunities, through internal and external L&D.
  • 25, days annual leave (plus bank holidays and the ability to buy up to 5 days per annum) and 1 CRUK day.
  • Pension (employer contributions of up to 10%), life insurance and a great benefit discount platform.

If you're as ambitious as we are, join our collective force and enjoy an excellent career, as we save lives and add years.
