Our client is a world class specialist in protection systems. Undertaking design, development, prototyping and production of armoured vehicles, light tactical vehicles, counter terrorism vehicles and equipment, and customised occupant survivability solutions for military, security, government, aid agencies and NGOs throughout the world.

The operational side of the business has identified a number of opportunities for change to improve the way we work. The production team has two key areas; the manufacturing & assembly teams and the production integration team.

To support our objective in operational excellence we are actively seeking a new 'Production Manufacturing Manager' to lead and develop the manufacturing and assembly operations. In the role, you will take ownership of all output from the build hall. This is a very exciting role for the right candidate, with the challenge being to make significant operational changes whilst keeping the current business functional.

This role will oversee production manufacturing operations including weld shop, automotive build including chassis system upgrades, electrical systems, trimming and vehicle strip down and assembly.

Through effective management of all resources and improvement implementation of appropriate systems, this area of the business is a fundamental enabler to us improving our competitive edge through more efficient manufacturing TAKT times along with an uplift in product quality. The right candidate will be given the autonomy to implement appropriate structure, system and process to deliver a well-functioning manufacturing operations.

Experience/Knowledge

Automotive vehicle build operational experience.
Automotive manufacturing engineering, line side controls and measure.
Working and implementation experience of Six Sigma, 5s & KANBAN.
Establishment and development of vehicle build and manufacturing facilities.

Specific Responsibilities

Development and implementation of the production strategy to meet the short medium and long term objectives of the business.
Manage all production allocated staff to deliver on-going manufacturing and assembly works within the site.
Manufacturing engineering
Workshop team leaders and technicians
Responsible for the overall quality of all product produced from the site.
Provide clear, effective and visible leadership to the production workshop function.
Development of production processes and procedures to improve production efficiencies which will reduce product cost, improve product quality and reduce lead times.
Work with Product Development, Procurement, Quality and Sales to develop class leading product and deliver the highest level of service to the customer.
Ownership, allocation and management of workshop space for production and development activities.
Maintain satisfactory levels of H&SE through a robust regime of education and compliance.
Promote a clean and professional working environment within the technical areas of site.
Manage and report on working hours to ensure all resource allocation is recorded and duly charged to their respective projects. Ideally this will maintain a manpower utilisation rate in excess of 85%.
Ensure trade and competency levels of all staff are maintained and renewed when required.
Advise Operations Director on any areas of under/over resourcing to enable priorities and action to be taken.
Prepare and deliver weekly reports showing production project status of all contracts, resource utilisation and forecasts to complete.
Manage all leave allocation for personnel in order to minimise disruption to the overall productive capacity across the year.
Regular liaison among key supporting departments to ensure product is delivered on time and to quality.
To understand and comply with Company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO27001.
Responsible for managing the performance and identify training needs of all production staff, ensuring workforce is supported in developing to encompass the requirement for new skills, tools and techniques
