About the role

We're looking for an Overhead Accountant supporting the Business Unit Management team to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

You'll provide financial information and analysis relating to the Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit in order to maintain financial control. You will support the Business Unit Management team in the achievement of strategy and financial objectives, through best practise financial reporting and control.

You will conduct investigations into labour and overhead costs, interrogate and report as necessary to management. Also ensure liaison with Managers to produce forecasts and budgets to established timetables. Engage in monthly reviews with managers and ensure finance are providing the correct level of management information to aid in operational decision making.

What do I need to be able to do the role?

As the successful applicant you will have a strong academic background and will hold an AAT accreditation or above with a proven track record working in accounting positions and have a proactive approach to work with flexible attitude towards duties.

*Excellent communication skills are essential as is experience of working with non-finance managers and challenging complex financial data.
*High quality standards and attention to detail
*Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
*Sound technical knowledge.
*Experience of IFS and / or Business Analytics an advantage

Lastly you will be AAT Qualified / Part Qualified CIMA/ACCA or equivalent

What else do I need to know?

The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
