Environmental Health Officer
Essential criteria
*The post holder is appropriately qualified and experienced in Environmental Health.
*The post holder is designated to maintain and promote their specific knowledge within their team and beyond, advising and briefing their team manager and other managers within Regulatory Services.
*Able to act as a competent and experienced enforcement investigator within their professional field, the post holder will carry out, lead on and report relevant, potentially complex, investigations, and where required develop/train others in the delivery of the same.
*The post holder is authorized to advise internal and external parties on technical matters relating to their specialist field acting as a lead for the Council and is also is authorized to provide advice to Elected Members, formal meetings of Council Members, the Media, and to provide evidential information within a Court setting, in respect of that expertise.
Main activities
*To carry out reactive and proactive enforcement work within professional area and within the business unit's system for prioritizing inspection risks.
*To take a lead in addressing allocated complex and high-profile enforcement matters within specialist area, including investigating, interviewing, making recommendations, and reporting.
*To attend and present as required at official Council meetings, represent the Council in liaison with external bodies and partnerships in respect of specialist area.
*To prepare reports and guidance on behalf of the service unit and the Council, including legal reports for prosecution and specialist reports in relation to area of expertise.
*To deal with allocated media and elected Member queries, with particular reference to area of expertise, including high profile specialist issues when these arise, advising the Council's PR team, and through them addressing the media direct as required.
*To maintain, enhance and develop own area of expertise, keeping abreast of new legislation and taking the lead on advising Managers and the wider Council as required on developments
