About the Role
We're looking for a Design & Safety Process Manager to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
The Radioactive Waste Management Team is focused on ensuring that work across Devonport Dockyard's Submarine Refit Complex (SRC) and Non-Tidal X-Berths (NTXB) is undertaken safely. It's accountable for the safe provision of the Radioactive Waste handling facilities and plant, including the provision of governance over the collection, handling, storage and disposal of such waste ensuring compliance with the mandated regulatory requirements.
As a Design and Safety Process Manager working within the Plant Management Radioactive Waste Management Team you'll be accountable for maintaining Plant Safety Case interfaces, interpreting and implementing Site Licence Agreements/Authorisation Compliance Conditions, Plant Safety Cases and ensuring appropriate Radioactive Waste Safety Management arrangements are published and adhered to. You'll ensure there is an effective interface between the Radioactive Waste Management Group and the Nuclear Engineering Directorate Technical Authority (via the relevant Design and Safety Manager) interface with Regulatory Authorities and demonstrate compliance with mandated regulatory requirements.
What do I need to do the role?
You'll be educated to degree level or equivalent in a STEM subject; recognised professional status (IEng or above) is highly desirable. You'll also need demonstrable experience in Plant/Facility Management and Safety Case Development/Implementation.
We would also like you to have some or all the following:
Experience in managing a small team, and wider stakeholders within a process.
A positive attitude toward Nuclear, Radiological and conventional safety and compliance.
Computer literate with high proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Experience in the design life cycle would also be beneficial Lastly, you'll need to be able to deploy excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to interface effectively with both internal and external Regulators.
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This will require you to hold, or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
