Senior Architect or Architectural Technologist required to take on the role of Principal Designer / CDM quality lead for a growing Architectural Practice based in Harrogate.

In a slightly unusual opening our client are looking to combine the skills of an experienced designer with that of someone who has a keen eye for CDM 2015 legislation and project quality assurance, you will actively take on the Principal Designer role and coordinate the internal design & project reviews to assist the wider company design teams in the principals of prevention. Training for suitable qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, CDM, IMaPS) will be provided.

The second key aspect of the role will be running design forums to help advance scheme evolvement and ensure the project administration side is being well managed.

Key responsibilities of the Principal Designer role are as follows -

Co-ordinate in-house Designer Risk Assessments and Risk Registers.
Further develop the Environmental and H&S Management systems.
Be a champion for safer design, pro-actively drive hazard elimination and cross-discipline H&S coordination (reduce risk through positive design).
Train staff members and advise the Leadership team of legislative requirements and changes to legislation.
Manage Duty Holder requirements.
Assessment of Designer Competencies.
Pre-Construction Information, prepare a report detailing potential Health and Safety issues, identified using existing surveys, reports and Risk Assessments from all Designers.
Review and comment on Construction Phase Plans, liaise with the Principal Contractor to ensure a suitable Construction Phase Plan is produced.
Health & Safety File, collated the Health & Safety File for construction and operational phases of each project.
Technical Reviews, undertake a full drawing package reviews of all H&S, design documents and drawings and provide teams with advice and comments
Design Team Meetings, attend internal design meetings and offer CDM and health & safety guidance. Assist designers in identifying Health & Safety risks and provide advice and assistance on the 'Principles of Prevention', proactively address risk elimination and reduction.
Risk Workshops, aid the design process and ensure that projects are "safe by design", facilitate workshops with designers, to review designs from a safety perspective, brainstorming 'what if' scenarios.

Practice Quality tasks:

Audit Project Control Files.
Act as custodian to Practice policies and design standards.
Enhance Quality tracker systems.
Review production information including planning packs, technical details and tender packages, plus working drawings.

General requirements

RIBA / CIAT Accredited
10 years post qualification experienced
Great communication and co-ordination skills
Working knowledge of Revit
Principal Designer qualifications are advantageous but training will be provided (NEBOSH / IOSH / IIRSM / CDM / IMaPS / CMaPS)

Salary GBP40,000 - GBP43,000 per annum + excellent benefits.
