This well know national retailer is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager with experience of both H&S and Operations in a busy Distribution Centre.

Purpose of the Position:Responsible for delivering a safe, compliant working environment across the site and all associated functions (inc. Transport), investigation and analysis in the spirit of continuous improvement. Lead the H&S culture with passion and energy to influence colleagues at all levels.

Key Activities & Responsibilities:

Design and drive with your General Manager the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) agenda and strategy across your Distribution Centre.
Support the fit-out of the new Distribution Centre (Bedford) and make the site fully compliant from a HSE perspective for contractors to operate safely.
Be the first point of call with your General Manager for all H&S and facilities matters.
Management and leadership of a small team (where applicable).
Responsibility for managing work permits and the H&S side of works on site.
Create, develop, review and implement safe systems of work and risk assessments across the DC and Transport.
Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are implemented, communicated and adhered to by all colleagues at all levels.
To advise on statutory changes in health & safety legislation.
To liaise with site Training Department to ensure that operational training complies with Health & Safety legislation.
To ensure all legislative requirements are met, including reporting of RIDDORs to specified deadlines.
Promote Health & Safety awareness and positive culture through HSE campaigns with a proactive and hands on approach.
Conduct training sessions with management & colleagues on a variety of HSE topics.
Communicate with any relevant bodies re issues as arising and utilise information for continuous improvement.
Chair and administration of site HSE meetings.
Manage accident analysis and reporting to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Maintain and monitor safety training records through internal auditing.
Provide support and assistance in implementation of projects.
To ensure that legal and statutory responsibilities in respect of the management of the site facilities are met. Responsibility for contractors and compliance with legislation and site specific rules.
