This highly innovative and market leading business are seeking a Purchasing Manager to work as part of the exciting and dynamic team based at Peterborough to manage the procurement and stock control for a high volume manufacturing plant. Essentially your background will be in procurement/purchasing raw material for production processes and managing all stock control operations.

Key Responsibilities

Managing the raw material stock purchases, replenishment and stock-control of all site consumable items (timber, nails, sheets, strapping, paint etc.) as part of the site planning team.

Working with planning to react to changes in demand to ensure the correct quantity and quality of materials is available to service the Manufacturing and Repair teams on site.

?? Overseeing the booking-in of loads from suppliers and transfer orders from quays

?? Working with and mentoring/training any administrative staff allocated to Purchasing/Stock Control

?? Creating monthly/period timber demand schedule for replenishment from UK mills and Baltic volumes

?? Completing the end of month Nail Journal process to ensure nail stocks are correct and figures adjusted are recorded

?? Regularly reviewing stock levels of stock items to ensure correct levels of stock are being maintained and reacting by pushing-back or bringing-forward purchase orders.

?? Reporting, recording and reacting to quality problems from suppliers

?? Working with site teams to maintain stock accuracy, quality, optimum quantity and turnover and assisting with counting procedures

?? Assisting with any quay location stock-counting procedures when required

?? Attending monthly site management team meetings to represent the purchasing/procurement function of the business

?? Liaising with the sales department to provide them with technical, market and supply information.

?? Attending 09:00 morning meetings/conference calls to respond to any imminent raw material concerns or to highlight any potential issues

?? Working closely with sawshop to deliver materials and plan replenishment stock for 'cut-to-order' materials

?? Assisting other sites with their timber demands and quay stocks as required.

Performance Measures

?? Timber % Cost of Sales - Helping to keep the average cost of sale % of timber as low as possible and in-line or below budget

?? Stock Turnover / Aged stock - ensuring aged stock figure is as low as possible targeted and reduced and that stocks are turned-over as often as possible to ensure the quality and of stock is appropriate for the site

?? Timber Stock Volume Ratio against usage - maintaining stock levels as a percentage of usage are appropriate for the site and replenishment times from suppliers

Key Skills and Competencies

?? CIPS or MCIPS qualified with a minimum of 3 years experience in purchasing supply in a manufacturing environment.

?? Flexibility and energetic to meet a very demanding production environment.

?? High attention to details with proven analytical skills

This is an important role for the business so a proven background in a previous supply chain management role is essential. This individual must have strong critical thinking and negotiation skills, they must be able to demonstrate an ability to handle multiple demands and be comfortable working under pressure. They must be confident, able to communicate well and influence individuals at the highest level. Flexibility and having the ability to react and respond positively to changes in workloads is essential.

Working Hours

8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (30mins lunch)

25 days holiday plus statutory public holidays

Some inter-company traveling will be required, travelling expenses paid at standard company rates (outlined in the company handbook)
