Quality Engineer

As a customer centric business, it's unsurprising to learn that BGL took a decision some time ago to move our quality engineering practices from a model where testers would work together to test system changes once they had been developed, to a model where testing is executed throughout the delivery cycle by everyone and anyone in the team. This process is supported by our quality engineering community of approximately 40 highly skilled people, who champion quality and shape testing in each of our teams. They play a critical role, which includes:

• Driving the 'test first' approach for all change
• Actively engaging in all agile ceremonies
• Questioning and challenging to drive clear stories and requirements
• Helping the team design and execute exploratory and automated tests
• Collaborating with the team to understand and mitigate risk
• Helping the team continuously improve through continuous learning

The adoption of this role has really helped to push forward our agile ways of working, whilst giving our people room and direction to learn, develop and grow.

This is a great opportunity to join us on a 12 month FTC (Maternity cover) as a hands-on mid-level engineer and contribute to the evolution and execution of quality processes at BGL, contributing towards a continuous improvement programme ensuring quality and testing is at the forefront of all system developments across a range of commercial, regulatory and digital change projects.

Your role will allow you to plan, design and execute testing including overseeing and contributing to the development and maintenance of test automation frameworks and test suites.

What will it take to be successful as a Quality Engineer?

The role requires you to take accountability for quality by defining the scope of testing and overseeing the quality of delivery. As a Quality Engineer you may be working independently in teams and you'll need to influence other technical disciplines in quality practices and processes. You'll also play an active role in supporting and growing capabilities across the wider quality community.

Experience in the following is essential:

• Hands-on software test planning, design and execution within an Agile working environment including both exploratory and automated testing
• Ability to engage and collaborate with different technical disciplines
• Ability to balance multiple work streams within a fast pace, demanding environment
• Functional and non-functional testing
