Our client is one of the largest locally based housing organisations in the East Midlands. Across the region they manage over 9,000 homes; house more than 15,000 tenants; provide over 1,500 bed spaces for people with support/care needs, in over 250 properties; and provide more than 500,000 hours of care and support each year. They are excited to be recruiting two Night Porters at their Branching Out project in Retford.

Do you have the skills and knowledge to empower the next generation? Will you be able to support young people to be independent, successful members of their community?

What they do:

Branching Out Retford is a busy and dynamic supported housing service for young people aged 16 – 21 years. Commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council, they offer a high quality, strengths based support service which aims to build the skills, confidence and independence of the young people who come through their doors.

Your role:

As a Night Porter, you will be undertaking a varied range of tasks on the night shift. Not one day is the same as you will be involved in site management, operating security surveillance, conducting health and safety checks of the building, directly responding to their young people, helping with any issues or concerns they may have. Other duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Booking residents and visitors in and out of the building and log all relevant information.
  • Logging all complaints, accidents, potential risks, and incidents of anti-social behaviour in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Keeping a day-to-day log of events and happenings when on duty and ensure effective handover of information to relevant staff.
  • Conduct regular security checks including fire alarm, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers and report any concerns.

About you:

Bring your personality and personal values to the business. You will need to be able to confidently diffuse difficult situations which may arise as a result of tension or disagreements between young people, and be understanding of the needs of people from diverse social, cultural and racial backgrounds. Good communication skills are key and you will also need to be able to work alone using your own initiative. It is beneficial if you have had experience and understanding of professional boundaries working with a vulnerable client group. A basic level of literacy and numeracy is essential.

A current colleague at Branching Out Newark says the best thing about working there is ‘watching the young people grow in confidence and skills is the most rewarding feeling. Keeping in touch with people after they've left the service and seeing them flourish makes the job worthwhile.’

Working times:

Their service operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year including bank holidays and weekends. You must be able to work on any day of the week to an agreed rota. Your shift times will start at 21:45pm until 07:00am.

When joining our client, you can access a range of fantastic benefits including:

  • c36.5 days leave a year with additional 2 days after 5 years’ service
  • Healthcare Cash Back Plan worth up to £875 per year on your routine healthcare costs e.g. Dentist, opticians etc.
