The Organisation: CareTech Community Services is a national provider of support for people with complex and challenging behaviours associated with autism, learning disabilities, mental health illness and neurological conditions. We support people to live as independently as possible within their own homes and in residential care.

The Role: We are looking for a Full Time Senior Support Worker to join us at one of our Residential Services in Huddersfield. This site is made up of two houses and two flats and is home to 11 supported individuals in total. This is quite an intensive service, supporting individuals requiring various levels of support. These individuals have learning difficulties and may display challenging behaviour at times. We are providing individuals with practical and emotional care, enabling them to have fulfilled lives, gain further independence and achieve positive outcomes.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will be expected to supervise and lead a team of Support Workers, acting as a role model and encouraging staff to take pride in providing individuals with practical and emotional care, enabling them to have fulfilled lives, gain further independence and achieve positive outcomes. The service is situated close to Huddersfield train station and is commutable from surrounding areas via bus links. You will also need to be flexible, as you are required to work shifts including bank holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities of a Senior Support Worker:

* To supervise the day-to-day delivery of care, to ensure that service users' needs are met and that their care, welfare and safety is paramount as well as ensuring the and the health and safety of staff

* To take on the role of care coordinator for individual service users and to participate in the reviewing, reassessing and changing of person centred support plans to ensure they are up-to-date and in line with the individual's needs.

* To participate, as required, in the recruitment and selection of staff within an equal opportunities framework.

* To undertake monthly supervisions with staff as delegated and participate in the staff appraisal programme for subordinate staff as well as completing regular service user and staff reports.

* To act as a staff skills coach and undertake appropriate team building and training programmes, designed to meet an individual's needs or the Company's staff development program.

* To ensure that the requirements of legislation, Care Standards and the Company's Policies and Procedures are followed.

* To develop links with service users families and the professionals, statutory agencies and advocates who assist and support them.

* To be responsible for the accurate recording, checking and auditing of budgets/finances.

* Ensure that the storage, administration and recording of all medication are in accordance with the GP's instructions and Company policy.

* To attend training or development sessions, where training needs have been identified, to update or maintain your skills. (Passing these courses is in some cases a requirement for continued employment

* To work away from the home as and when necessary and assist service users with activities, holidays and days/evenings away from the home.

Responsibilities of a Senior Support Worker:

* NVQ Level 2 or above in Health & Social Care

* 12 months experience in a senior / similar role

* Experience in supporting adults with challenging behaviour, learning disabilities and/or mental health issues is essential

* The ability to keep calm under pressure

* Confidence to work alone and to lead a staff team

* Excellent communication both written and verbal

* The passion to work with vulnerable Adults & the desire and commitment to achieve high standards of safeguarding
