Bad software quality is upsetting.
For you, poor quality is to be avoided at all costs.
Asking good questions and finding ways to expand test coverage and help others contribute to good quality too - those are your bread and butter skills.
You're probably curious as to how it broke and want to know what to tinker with to overcome the problem and prevent a repeat, whether that means writing a script to interrogate some code, refining scenarios or making sure the cases are as accurate as possible.
Maybe you use tools to help push the limits? Mimicking increased users or automating tests when code is pushed!
This role is about scaling. Eventually you'll focus on building out the team, too, but right now they want to ensure confidence that the software is working seamlessly to improve the customer experience in a 'known-to-be-stressful life situation'.
You started out with manual testing, and let's be honest, that'll always have its place; computers can't always predict or replicate the stupid things us humans tend to do.
These days though, you spend your days learning the ins and outs of Automation Testing, and you love it. Why? BECAUSE YOU CAN BREAK THINGS FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENTLY!
This company is small now, but growing; they have a great bunch of people that are friendly, intelligent and want to do things the right way, but they need you, your quirks, your intuition, your curiosity to make sure their software is as good as it gets.
There's so much for you to get involved in, and there are a million different ways for you to make a difference???initially though, you'll start by automating as much as possible, making sure that the proper quality checks are being made in their CI/CD pipeline as they improve the functionality through the pipeline.
They are going to grow their testing capability so great communication and a desire to teach more junior people the good stuff you've learned, are important.
Tech-wise, they use SpecFlow, Cypress, and Selenium with C# and Javascript, but they're not fixated on specific tools; they're looking for someone that'll know the right tool for the job at hand, and that'll include trying out and (pun intended) testing new tools whenever you come across one.
