The Role

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and talented Paramedics to join the Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport to help the establishment to develop and deliver the new BSc Paramedic Science Programme. The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered paramedic who has explicit knowledge of the College of Paramedics Educational Framework.

The candidate should possess extensive teaching experience in Paramedic practice, Programme development expertise and ideally experience of HCPC approval events. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a proven track record in Paramedic Practice, leadership, policy and staff development. Experience of supervising, supporting and assessing paramedic students is essential. The successful applicant will work with existing Faculty staff to deliver excellence in teaching to all Faculty students.

Previous Knowledge and ExperienceTeaching & Scholarship

PhD in relevant discipline or equivalent Practice/professional experience and/or PhD/Clinical Doctorate (working towards or achieved)

Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. PGCert and/or holding or working towards Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA)

HCPC Registered Paramedic with explicit knowledge of College of Paramedics Educational Framework and extensive operational experience as a front line paramedic

Experience of designing and delivering excellent learning activities and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes

Evidence of developing effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance

Experience or knowledge of approaches to enhance the student experience

Evidence of engaging in networks, locally, nationally and internationally

Programme development experience

Experience and knowledge of Scottish Ambulance Service internal systems i.e. clinical governance, regional education

Experience of HCPC approvals process

Expert Knowledge of ALS (Advanced Life Support), and/or PHTLS (Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support), and/or PHPLS (Pre-hospital Paediatric Life Support), and/or Scottie (Scottish Core Obstetric Teaching and Training in Emergencies), and/or POET (Pre-hospital Obstetric Emergency Training)

Teaching & Research

PhD in relevant discipline

Established track record of high quality published research

A record of involvement in applications for external funding for research and/or knowledge transfer

Experience of supervising dissertation projects across the range of undergraduate/ postgraduate and of supervising doctoral students

Experience of providing high quality teaching across a range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes

Experience of designing and delivering course modules

Evidence of successful co-ordination, support, supervision, management and/or mentoring of others

Evidence of successful incorporation of subject and pedagogic research and/or scholarship within design and delivery of learning activities and programme development as part of an integrated approach to academic practice

Evidence of programme innovation and development

Evidence of knowledge to support international activities

A track record of high quality general or subject specific pedagogical work published in appropriate outlets/media

A record of involvement in developing teaching and scholarship proposals to bid for external funding

Evidence of good knowledge of the Higher Education context and regulatory framework

Teaching & Research

Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. PGCert and/or holding an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and be working towards Fellowship

Evidence of collaborative research with other institutions and interdisciplinary work

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as a key contribution to high quality student learning

Evidence of programme innovation and development

Evidence or knowledge to support international activities

Evidence or knowledge of the Higher Education context and regulatory framework
