Job Purpose
  • You will supply mould cover assemblies that are used for the manufacture of banknote and other security papers for Overton and Bathford mills and overseas customers, to defined standards.
  • You will learn all aspects of mould cover manufacture, fitting and repairs. This will include assembly of layers of mould cover, setting-out and inspection, welding and seaming, and all other ancillary operations.
  • You will carry out cover fitting on cylinders, preparation & documentation for production and repair work as required.
  • You should have the ability to progress to a Senior Mould Technician, when the opportunity arises and sufficient experience is gained.
Key Responsibilities
  • You will assemble mould covers with the minimum of supervision. This includes assembling the layers of mould cover produced on the press and/or automated equipment, by tack welding the layers together, bowl welding through all layers through to completion of the final seam and any other ancillary operations.
  • You will assist with transportation of mould covers and cylinders between manufacturing, storage and cleaning areas as required.

  • You will assist with repairs on the paper-machines as required.

  • You will assist with cleaning of mould covers and cylinders as required.
Quality
  • You are required to produce mould covers to close dimensional tolerances (measured in microns) using the dedicated equipment. It is fundamental that all work carried out is of the highest quality and that all equipment is maintained in clean and serviceable order.

Control of Waste

  • The manufacturing and drawing/plotting processes must be carried out to optimize the consumption of materials. Any waste generated must be segregated for recycling as required.

Safety and 5S

  • Ensure that all equipment and machinery is safe and in a clean state and that working areas are free from obstruction.
  • All tasks must be carried out using safe working practices paying particular attention to tasks using flames, chemicals and welding equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment and local exhaust ventilation must be used as directed.
  • Compliance to all applicable safety rules must be observed at all times and any use of chemicals is undertaken as described in the Chemical Register (COSHH)
  • An awareness of Lean manufacturing techniques as appropriate to the department.

Care of Machinery/Assets

  • You will provide first line maintenance support including regular routine checks to ensure efficient operation including, but not exclusive to, oil levels, gas levels/availability of replacement cylinders, filter change/clean etc.

Physical Demands

  • Some tasks require physical demands (ie manual handling), in particular mould cover fitting, mould cover and cylinder transport.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in an engineering or technical environment, with ability to understand technical drawings and use measuring equipment.
  • Demonstrable experience of the skills required to operate the manual and automated welding equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Some experience in overhead crane operation, driving (tractor, tow truck, forklift etc.) and use of grinding wheels.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office (MS Word & Excel) and Department-specific systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both within the Department and with other Departments
  • Good organisational skills to schedule workload to meet production schedules and Sales deadlines.
