Job description/Person specification
Role Purpose As the role holder you will provide critical technical leadership and influence as part of the Advanced Services and Products business, which brings new technologies to the market place. You will be an expert in your field, known for your transformational contribution to power-reliant industries. In the role you will be responsible for defining and delivering technical projects, structures and architectures, exploring with and influencing director level customers to understand their business and commercial issues and contribute key insights. You will champion a newly integrated capability in QinetiQ to meet the needs of the fast moving power and energy markets.

Key accountabilities:
* Management: Provide transformational technical leadership and capability insights for the newly integrated Power Sources, Energy Storage & Distribution capability area
* Thought leadership: Contribute technical insight on market trends and provide insights to inform group strategy formation and delivery
* Customer influence: Scoping customer needs and creating appropriate technical programme that leads to ongoing technical and business services
* Technical requirements and design: Technical support to pre-sales, solution architecture and delivery
* Cost and risk: Develop and assure specialist technical inputs and development to meet customer needs including defining approaches to complex solution development and acceptance testing with appropriate risk management

Skills and Experience:
* Excellent collaborative player creating partnership opportunities across the value chain that span multiple offerings and capabilities, based on the individual's excellent technical credibility
* Technical leader in power and energy with competence and excellent reputation in high performance domains such as defence, security, or critical national infrastructure.
* Ability to interpret & provide technical oversight for broad power sources, energy storage and distribution capability and deep understanding of at least two of the following:
o Customer needs analysis, consultancy and solution mapping o Battery and fuel cell electrochemistry, testing, integration
o Battery and fuel cell pack testing including abusive and destructive testing o Energy distribution, thermal and electrical management
o Gas composition analysis and chemical analysis and inference for engineering system design
o Decision support, cost analysis, statistical analysis and modelling of power needs and solution analysis
* Demonstrable achievements in defining strategy and achieving capability growth
* Willing to travel to spend time with customers and team members, across the QinetiQ sites.
* Championing creation of a new consultancy offer in power sources, new location base in Farnborough and integration with adjacent technical areas.
