Engineering Technician

Shift: 42 hour contract with a 7 on 7 off shift pattern including days, nights and weekends. Our day shifts start at 06:15-18:15 and our night shifts starts at 18:15 - 06:15.

Salary: GBP21,420 - GBP24,108 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Our Hatfield Fulfilment Centre is our most established major distribution depot. This site is an automated warehouse where all Ocado products are stored. It also facilitates our customers' orders which are picked and dispatched, using highly sophisticated systems and processes, enabling Ocado to deliver in one hour time slots. In order to run such an operation, a skilled and dedicated team of Engineers and Technicians must be on hand to carry out maintenance and repairs at all times. We are currently looking for Engineering Technicians to work in our highly automated Customer Fulfilment Centre in Hatfield.

This is a fantastic opportunity where you will be working towards gaining experience and developing your skills to potentially develop into the trainee engineer role. You will also benefit from high quality training and mentoring.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned maintenance across the site in an accurate, timely and safe manner ensuring maintenance procedures are followed
• Update records of work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores and training given
• Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal departments in finding ways to improve process and increase machine reliability and performance
• Respond to and diagnose equipment breakdowns, resolving issues and actioning repairs
• Perform daily housekeeping and cleaning duties of all equipment.
• Analyse data to find solutions to improve MHE performance, providing reports where necessary
• Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard

What do we need from you?

• Some technical ability and understanding relating to automation hardware and software would be preferred, but training can be given
• A formal engineering related qualification would be advantageous
• Competent mechanically
• Demonstrable analytical skills with sound problem solving ability
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to impart knowledge effectively to others
• Good organisation skills, able to prioritise
• To be self motivated and willing to work alone
• Knowledge of control systems would also be preferred
• This role involves working at height using a variety of access equipment, so technicians need to be comfortable working at heights
