Barron McCann Ltd is an independent IT Service Provider offering a range of IT support services from help desk through to rapid response on-site repair and maintenance; our customers are some of the most prestigious names on the high street.

Some of the biggest businesses and most prestigious retailers around rely on us to repair and maintain their IT systems/equipment and provide EPoS and back office support including a fully equipped Disaster Recovery suite, based right here in Derby.

We now have an exciting opportunity for technically minded individuals to join our Workshop as PC Technicians.

Experienced in IT repairs and looking to develop your skills further? With the ability to develop through a graded structure whilst you learn more skills in a company looking to grow its repair team and develop the capabilities of employees.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To deliver a consistent level of productivity and quality whilst completing repairs of various IT equipment and peripherals.
  • Support the wider team in delivering the workshop objectives.
  • Identify weaknesses in process affecting the quality and efficiency of repairs.
  • Be prepared and available to undertake any relevant training as required.
  • Perform system and physical movements of both parts and items for repair, ensuring items are located correctly.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of PC builds, software installations and common fault diagnosis, with the ability to diagnose and repair hardware faults down to a modular level.
  • An interactive and team driven approach.
  • A 'right first time' ethos.
  • Focused on quality and high levels of customer service.
  • An analytical and progressive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate competently in both verbal and written format.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced workshop environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and SharePoint, Nav and Alliance/Astea(beneficial).
  • Planning and organisational ability with attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience:

  • Monitors: TFT/CRT/LCD.
  • Laser barcode scanners
  • PC base units
  • Point of Sale (POS) base units
  • Thermal and impact receipt printers
  • Colour and mono Laser printers
  • Dot matrix printers
  • Laptop computers
  • Uninterruptable Power supplies
  • Mobile phones and Tablets.
  • Servers and switches

Have experience in computer operating systems and the installation of software across multiple platforms. Be able to diagnose and repair hardware faults down to both modular and component level.

You will need to maintain and develop strong working relationships with departmental and cross departmental peers.

Proactively work with line management to ensure that issues are raised and resolved to minimise impact to production turnaround times.

On the job training will be provided and you may be required to attend specialised training sessions on new equipment which may be in-house or external.

The position is 40 hours per week based on working any five days in seven.
