The Role
Reporting to the Head of Delivery, the Delivery Manager's span of control covers all aspects of project management activity instructed through the Utility Services team. This is a key supporting role for the Head of Delivery in ensuring end to end client satisfaction, and in meeting the financial and marketing objectives of the department.
The service delivery manager will organise and manage a range of single and multi-utility service packages to SMS' clients across the UK, including volume infrastructure rollouts, renewable energy and turnkey projects, and strategic development sites. Services will include such as feasibility studies, budget and firm quotations, site surveys, and project management.

Typical Duties

  • Assist the Head of Delivery with the profit and loss account for the Delivery department.
  • Assist the Head of Delivery with sales and profit forecast.
  • Provide regulatory, commercial, technical support and guidance for your direct reports.
  • Manage relationships between units with the Energy Services Department.
  • Assume responsibility for ensuring appropriate PO cover from clients and for the timely invoicing of completed works.
  • Liaise with the Head of Delivery in identifying and pursuing business development opportunities.
  • Track progress of projects through proactive update of systems, databases and associated management systems.
  • Identify various technical solutions and undertake feasibility studies to identify optimum engineering designs to satisfy the client's needs.
  • Apply SMS policies and procedures in the delivery of projects assigned by the Head of Delivery.
  • Ensure that staff are adequately trained and competent to undertake the tasks assigned to them.
  • Drive client satisfaction (internal and external).
  • Support the Utility Infrastructure Manager in creating and nurturing a culture where employees and clients are at the centre of everything we do.

  • Coach staff, regular 1:2:1's, annual reviews, team meetings and performance management.
  • Monitor employee performance against established KPI's to ensure adherence to expected behaviours and legislation.
  • Ensure all existing and potential client and project data obtained by way of day to day activities is recorded in the relevant Company systems and GDPR is adhered to.
  • Ensure all Company processes and policies are adhered to.
  • Continuous motivation of the team to ensure low turnover, absence and achievement of key performance indicators.
  • To organise and manage the resources of the Delivery department, prioritising workflow to ensure individual projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner, so that they enhance the professional image and reputation of the company in the marketplace.
  • Ensure that staff are adequately trained and competent to undertake the tasks assigned to them.
  • Undertake a lead role to engage with existing or potential customers to secure repeat business opportunities with clients.
  • Assist in preparing fee proposals to clients wishing to procure services of SMS.
  • Ensure agreed work processes are properly documented, maintained, and implemented consistently.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, providing advice and regular project updates through efficient use of meetings, systems and reports.
  • Maintain awareness of changes and developments within the energy and utilities marketplace.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to obtain or relay technical and commercial aspects of delivery projects.
  • Apply SMS policies and procedures in the preparation and completion of projects assigned by the Utility Infrastructure Manager.
  • Engender a culture of 'Continuous Improvement' and embrace the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems employed by SMS.
  • Responsible for regular management reporting to Head of Delivery
  • Any other duties required by the Head of Delivery
Additional Duties
  • Assist the Engineering Team by:
  • Provide suitable support in maintaining ECA Accreditations for SMS.
  • Reviewing RAMS
  • Assist in the design of low voltage electrical contracting works to BS7671.
  • Assist in the development of panels and product delivery for low voltage electrical contracting works.
  • Reviewing of low voltage electrical installations installed by SMS.
  • Assess quotation costs and recommend the most effective solution.
  • draft feasibility studies for engineering approval.
  • Assist with mentoring / support of any new employees within the department.
Education and Professional Qualifications

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths, Physics and English is essential
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a related Managerial discipline
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
  • Higher BTEC (or equivalent) in Electrical / Gas / Water Engineering
  • Project Management Qualifications
  • BSth Edition
  • C&G 2919 - Electric Vehicle Installations
  • C&G 2391 or equivalent - Inspection and Testing
  • C&G 2396 or equivalent - Design and Verification of Electrical Installations
  • Meter Operation Code of Practice (MOCOPA) Trained

Essential Experience
  • Experienced background Project Engineering of utility infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of the Electricity, Telecoms, Gas and Water Utilities Industries
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice
  • Experience of professional report writing and attending client progress meetings
  • basic knowledge of New Roads and Street Works Act, Traffic Management Act and associated Codes of Practice would be desirable
  • Good knowledge of Power Industry Engineering Standards and Recommendations would be desirable
