Development Engineer - Metal 3D Printing (KTP Associate)

Would you like to be part of a team pioneering the next evolution in metals 3D Printing? Photocentric have a Development Engineer - Metal 3D Printing (KTP Associate) opportunity which delivers exactly that! A collaboration between The University of Sheffield (Department of Materials Science & Engineering) and Photocentric Limited, Peterborough, aims to develop a novel, metal 3D printing platform. The work will be based at Photocentric and will involve accessing the University's state of the art Royce Translational Centre.

Key Responsibilities of our Development Engineer - Metal 3D Printing (KTP Associate) include:

You will be developing the new printing process and its subsequent post-processing operations to optimise the production of test coupons and components.

You will also investigate the metal powder feedstock and material performance for a range of alloys. Metal additive manufacturing is growing rapidly in the recent years and it is expected to reach $12 billion in 2028. Photocentric has invented a novel AM technique (based on stereolithography additive manufacturing) using visible light emitted through the LCD screen to selectively cure the metal-containing photo-polymer resin to make 'green' metal components. The photopolymer binder is subsequently burned off during the de-binding process and then during sintering the metal powders are bonded together to make a dense part.

The novelty of utilising commercial LCDs in 3D printers has made them scalable and economical for mass industrial applications, and the parts can be of a much higher resolution and surface finish, compared to many AM techniques.

Skills and Experience required of our Development Engineer - Metal 3D Printing (KTP Associate):

You will be a highly driven researcher with excellent project management skills who is comfortable contributing to a wider team of scientists and engineers. They will be equally happy to present their work to the wider Photocentric team as the project will impact on strategic decision making and commercial activity.

Candidates must have at minimum of a degree in science/materials/engineering with some research experience or a PhD seeking their first research role. You will have the fascinating opportunity to take the results of your efforts forward and embed them in an already successful company. You will play a pivotal role in the next phase of this exciting organisations growth. Sheffield is one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development. As part of working as a KTP Associate you will have access to a dedicated personal development budget of GBP4000.
