We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Engineer to be based at our client site in Porton Down.
Working hours: 8:00 am- 4:30 pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4pm Friday
Job Purpose:
The scope of the tasks will be dependent upon technical / job specification specialisation. You will be reasonably expected to attend and complete relevant NVQ / Training as depicted by your Line Manager. Whilst on site you will be expected to carry out any reasonable labourer task request. You will work towards having the knowledge and building the skills needed to carry out your trade specific tasks. You will gain knowledge and awareness of resource management, customer service, communication skills, health and safety and quality. The need for a sensible, flexible and customer focussed attitude is vital.
Principal Accountabilities:
* To learn the skills needed to carry out planned preventative maintenance and the fault diagnosis and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment including:
* Mechanical plant and equipment fault finding
* Refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance and fault finding
* Steam and gas heating and ventilation equipment
* Industrial boilers and associated pumps and controls
* Domestic hot water and water distribution systems
* Steam distribution systems
* Compressed air systems
* Condition monitoring and thermography
* General plumbing
Person Specification:
* Studying (or have qualifications) in Maths, English and a Science or craft based
* subject to a minimum grade C
* Articulate, numerate and IT literate
* Be able to demonstrate the ability to identify health and safety and environmental issues
* Have good communication skills
* Be resilient under pressure and be able to converse confidently with staff, suppliers and customers at all levels
* Demonstrate "hands-on" technical expertise as learning progresses
* Proactive in learning new things
* Able to obtain SC clearance
