About the role

We are looking for a Global Medical Director to work closely with and report to the Global Chief Medical Officer (CMO) who can provide support on issues of a medical, scientific and ethical nature, and enable informed and sound decisions relating to medical, clinical, business development and medico-regulatory activities.

The Global Medical Director will be in charge of our Women’s health portfolio, will manage and provide strategic direction and operational support at a regional and global level, implements Medical functional strategies that are integral to an aligned strategic vision and create maximum opportunities in the regions and at an overarching global level.

Duties and Responsibilities

The postholder will:

  • support the CMO by providing medical and scientific expertise to drive optimal strategic medical direction, including clinical development planning, business development clinical assessment, relationship management with leading research physicians, critical evaluation of current literature, and in other domains as required;
  • manage data generation projects, medico-regulatory life cycles and KOL mapping;
  • build internal medical affairs connectivity and expertise;
  • manage investigatory initiated studies across a broad and diverse portfolio;
  • manage scientific publications and communications strategy and planning;
  • develop a global medical strategy for responsible portfolio;
  • be the point of contact for external investigators requesting investigator-initiated study (IIS) support;
  • provide support to the Head of Clinical Development;
  • support the company’s Clinical team with company sponsored studies at global level;
  • map international disease registries;
  • shape the external environment through KOL management, mapping, liaising with academic bodies, forming external scientific partnerships, and building a scientific competitive intelligence;
  • be the face of the company for external partners;
  • act as a senior champion for patient safety;
  • encourage internal colleagues and external customers to report all product complaints and adverse events to the company promptly;
  • assist PV with signal detection; and
  • work transversally with clinical development, GRA, GQA, business development and project management.

Experience, skills and qualifications required

The postholder must have the following:  

  • a licence to practice medicine;
  • a post-graduate qualification in pharmaceutical medicine or related discipline;
  • previous clinical practice experience in women’s health in at least one of the following areas : Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Human microbiome / microbiology, Oncology (breast cancer), Immunology;
  • previous corporate or industry experience in pharmaceutical, medical devices, healthcare, insurance, or public health;
  • IIR assessment and IIR Study Review Committee experience;
  • experience with FDA, EMA and NMPA agencies;
  • Speak English fluently

The postholder must also have the following skills and experience:

  • experience in Life cycle Management for base business;
  • a sound understanding of research methodology and quality of evidence generation;
  • KOL mapping, management and development experience;
  • internal scientific communication experience;
  • business development and clinical assessment capabilities;
  • a firm understanding of bioequivalence studies and requirements for highly variable drugs;
  • experience in using real world evidence in data generation and to support regulatory submissions;
  • the ability to conduct advisory board meetings, including virtual advisory board meetings;
  • project management experience;
  • the ability to undertake literature reviews and identify search terms to address research questions;
  • the ability to undertake critical appraisal of literature;
  • experience in Asian & Russian medical affairs or clinical development;
  • people management experience.
