Role Summary

We are recruiting for an Assistant Manager to join our Children’s Service (3-18 years old).

Our children have complex learning disabilities, physical disabilities and multisensory impairments and are enjoying an enhanced quality of life as a result of the excellent care and support that they are gaining from living in our state of the art two and four bedroom homes here at our single site in Cheadle Hulme.

The service provision is divided into two hubs of three houses – 12 children and young people in each designated hub.Reporting to the Registered Manager and working alongside another Assistant Manager, the role will undertake the day to day operational support of the individual hubs and delegated houses.There is a dedicated House Manager and staff team of Child Support Workers (day and night staff) in each home, and the Service has approximately 100 staff.The main responsibilities of the Assistant Manager will be to support the RM in the effective and efficient management of the homes and deputise in their absence, taking responsibility for the management of the service, including the staff team, practise, budget, resources and the welfare of the children.

The Assistant Manager will ensure that all practices are developed and performed within the organisational policies and procedures and the legislative framework pertaining to children and young people.

The role will be part of the management on-call rota and flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, along with flexibility for night shifts when required.

Requirements?

  • QCF Level 4/5 Leadership and Management in Residential Care or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in a residential setting
  • Previous experience in a management role in a care setting
  • Strong knowledge of Ofsted Quality Standards in Children’s Homes, including detailed knowledge of the regulations and SCCIF
  • Previous experience dealing with service inspections and audits
  • Experience of rota management
  • Ability and commitment to manage and support staff to enable cohesive and effective working through team empowerment
  • Ability, commitment and confidence to challenge staff performance and practices and performance manage staff as and when required
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, within agreed procedures, parameters and in line with business priorities
  • Ability to establish effective communication with young people, staff, relatives, external agencies and other professionals
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to write and maintain reports, children / young peoplenotes and communicate effectively with parents/staff/external agencies
