Birchanger Sports & Social club are seeking to employ a professional and enthusiastic management couple to run the popular members club. (Location CM235QJ). Salary to be agreed.
Located in the beautiful Essex village of Birchanger, the Sports & Social Club has existed for over 125 years and is the centre of village life providing club members a comprehensive bar and food service, regular entertainment, a snooker and pool room plus sports such as Bowls, Cricket and Football which take place in the clubs large grounds.
The successful candidates for this attractive position will have had significant tenure in the same, or similar, business; possess an enthusiastic 'can do' approach and an exemplary commitment to making all customers feel welcome. They will have proven experience of operating an efficient and financially successful licensed premises in a clean, attractive and safe environment and have knowledge of all current licensing, safety and hygiene legislation that must be complied with to operate the business. They will also be capable of hiring, appraising, training and managing a small number of casual staff to support them in the day to day running of the club. The position comes with live-in accommodation at the club; a flat with self contained kitchen, which the successful candidates would be expected to reside in.
The position requires management of our bar service, selling drinks and food to our members and their guests, and also the provision of a full menu prepared from the club kitchen. The expectation is that the successful couple will manage and operate both the bar and cook meals from the kitchen. The role also includes the requirement to order all stock, operate and reconcile tills, manage the cellar and stock room, cleaning the club and its facilities on a daily basis and supporting and promoting a schedule of entertainments and events throughout the year. The management couple will be accountable to a club committee comprising of a chairman, secretary and twelve elected volunteers who together are responsible for overseeing the overall running of the business.
The club is usually open seven days a week but only for a total of approximately 60 hours, being closed on certain weekdays until the evening. Expected combined working hours for the successful couple would be 90 hours per week. Additional hours of operation may be required for certain events throughout the year however the fixed salary position does not include any right to claim overtime payment.
