Bristol, Gloucester, Summerset and Wiltshire Community Rehabilitation Division (BGSW) is part of the KSS CRC Probation. We provide a broad range of probation services for adult offenders on community orders or licenses. We focus on quality of practice to reduce re-offending, improve the safety of the communities we serve and improve the life chances of those within the Bristol, Gloucester, Summerset and Wiltshire Community Rehabilitation Division (BGSW) criminal justice system.

The Domestic Abuse Safety Advisor (DASA) plays an important part in contributing to the development and delivery of a co-ordinated community support service to the partners and ex-partners of individuals convicted of domestic violence, or related offending who are subject to a Probation Intervention.

The succesful applicant will need to demonstrate an ability and willingness to represent Probation positively to other community agencies and work constructively and collaboratively with other professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Managing Risk:

* Establishing contact with partners and ex-partners of domestic violence perpetrators and encouraging them to engage.

* Promoting the safety of partners/ex-partners and children of domestic violence perpetrators.

* Carry out pre intervention assessment with the victim using Domestic Abuse, Stalking, Harassment and Honour based violence (DASH) and Spousal Assault Risk Assessment (SARA).

* Managing risk by being pro-active with victims and sharing and liaising with others

* Providing clear and accurate explanation and information about interventions, whilst ensuring that there is an understanding that behaviour may not change.

* Make referrals to Children's Services where there are safeguarding concerns.

Multi Agency Liaison:

* Liaising with other relevant agencies in relation to any child safeguarding issues

* Create links with local agencies to improve communication and promote co-operation and inter-agency working.

* Actively be involved and attend Multi Agency Risk Assessments Conferences (MARAC) which may include presenting high risk cases

Other duties include collecting and providing information on cases including risk information, engagement with the intervention and any non-compliance. Facilitating domestic violence survivor groups.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with up to date knowledge of criminal legislation relating to Domestic Violence. You will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the dynamics of an abusive relationship, including victim and perpetrator issues, along with knowledge of Child Protection policies and the Safeguarding Children framework.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with people in difficult or sensitive circumstances, with the ability to communicate tactfully and sensitively with victims while maintaining a boundaried relationship. You must have a level of self-confidence and assertiveness that will enable victims of domestic abuse to make informed choices.

The DASA must be able to think logically and remain calm in a crisis situation, dealing with circumstances that may often be of an explicit/distressing nature. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to complete in-depth records and reports.

Applicants with an IDVA Qualification (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) are particularly welcomed to apply for this role. Applicants not qualified need to gain this qualification - This would be sponsored by KSS CRC and achieved on a day release programme with assignments.

Hours: Full time - 37 hours per week
