The Integrated Children’s Disability Service, Assessment Team is a county wide service, responsible for progressing assessments for and maintaining all Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCP’s) for Nottinghamshire children, young people (CYP). This is a statutory process and has strict timescales. Please reference the Senior Caseworker Job Description further in relation to full experience and qualifications required.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Caseworker who will focus on Post 16.  Specific Experience required and tasks you will be required to undertake are as below: 

 Have a strong working knowledge of the Children & Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015

 Ideally, you will have an understanding of The Mental Capacity Act and experience of working directly with young people as they prepare for adulthood. Knowledge of the Further Education sector would also be helpful. 

 Have detailed working knowledge of the Education, Health & Care statutory assessment process, having oversight of timescales, supporting the team to meet these as well as understanding the implications of these not being met.

 Take a lead on preparing the Local Authority (LA) response to EHC Appeals (Mediation/Tribunal) and represent the LA at mediation meetings or at court for Tribunals

 Quality assure EHC plans, ensuring that the CYP’s aspirations are reflected and that outcomes are measurable

 Have good literacy & I.T skills and working knowledge of MOSAIC. or other databases  

 Facilitate multi-agency meetings where it has been identified that an education placement may be at risk

 Have good understanding of the graduated approach to services and education support in Nottinghamshire for children, young people at ‘SEN Support’

 Hold a small complex caseload

 Undertake termly placement monitoring meetings for mainstream Further Education providers and Independent specialist Colleges

 Facilitate and Chair EHC reviews as required

 Have Line Management of 3plus Caseworkers including their personal & professionals Supervision

 Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Education, Health & Care colleagues. 

The Person:

We are looking for a highly motivated resilient worker with the ability to work under pressure, who has enthusiasm to improve services for young people with additional needs and who is able to organise and manage their work within set statutory timescales.

You will be highly skilled in communicating and negotiation with experience in working effectively with young people with additional needs, their parents/carers as well as a range of Education, Health and Social Care agencies and professionals. Above all else, you will demonstrate an ambition to support our young people to lead happy, productive and safe adult lives within their communities including paid employment whenever possible.
