Our client is a young person's residential care home with a difference. Their mission is to create and maintain homes that feel like permanent sanctuaries, where every child is safe, welcomed and affirmed, and attains a level of breakthrough appropriate to them.
Their vision is to offer the highest quality, personalised and intuitive care and education for every child.

The Company are now looking to recruit Residential Care Practitioners to work on a permanent basis and to strive to provide the best quality care to young people in their home in Wiston near Biggar.

Main roles and responsibilities include:
  • Providing care and support to children and young people in accordance with policies and procedures and participating in a mindful teamwork approach to childcare practice
  • Contributing to the assessment process for young people and being involved with on-going support programmes in conjunction with other key employees
  • Ensuring positive support to children and young people when they are concerned or distressed
  • Ensuring that relevant reports are kept, in addition to appropriate record keeping information collection and exchange
  • Undertaking health and safety checks and other safety/security checks as necessary
  • Implementing de-escalation and physical intervention strategies as necessary and appropriate, in line with mandatory training
  • Promoting young peoples' participation, to ensure they are actively involved in the environment and day to day activities of the home
  • Complying with the code of conduct as required by the SSSC
  • Fully understanding the reporting process of child protection within the home
  • Promoting structure, boundaries and domestic routines within the house
  • Undertaking relevant training programmes as required by the Company, SSSC & National Care Standards and be responsive to own personal development

To be considered for the role you must be calm, patient, nurturing, tenacious, intuitive, thoughtful, warm, understanding, with a sense of humour, flexible and honest. You will also have genuine compassion and concern for vulnerable people and have the ability to adapt communication skills as appropriate to the person.

You must also:
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Ideally hold a SVQ 3 & HNC in Social Care or equivalent or be working towards this.
  • Have experience of working within services of young people, although this isnt essential.
  • Have good communication skills
  • Have a wide knowledge of the behaviours displayed by children and young people and an understanding of a myriad of intervention strategies
  • Have knowledge of the Policy and Procedures in relation to residential child care
  • Have an understanding the principles of safe guarding and child protection
  • A willingness to participate in all in house training, specifically mindfulness
  • Ability to work shifts including evening and weekends

The Home has both Full-time and Part-time positions available for this role in which hours can be discussed. These hours will be working on a shift basis which will include working evenings and weekends.
In return, you will receive a salary of GBP18,500-GBP26,000 plus enhanced overtime and additional pay for sleeps
